Outdated instructions for 3.7 sp4 license keys

  • Posted on Jan 17, 2011 (permalink)

I upgraded my sitifinity install from 3.7 sp3 to 3.7 sp4 and now I get an error "You are running a trial version of Sitefinity 3.7" .

So I decided to look at the instructions for licensed copies of sitefinity. It appeared outdated.
    http://www.sitefinity.com/documents/installationguide_3_7.pdf

When I go to my account: the only option I have is to download the license.  It it a .lic extention.  which does not match the directions in the pdf file.

So I do I install the license key?  TELERIK  you really need to get your documentation together.  !!!!
        ?>>Installation guide= wrong
        ?>>upgrade guide = misleading /incomplete

The previous key I owned was placed in app_data\LicenseFile.xml
So I attempted to put the new key>>LicenseFile.lic
    in the same folder??

IS THIS CORRECT?  any help would be appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Doug Lubey of Louisiana

    Hi Sravanthi,

LicenseFile.lic is used in Sitefinity 4.0. To add the key to your project you may use several options

    1. From the Project Manager - there is option to connect to your Sitefinity's account and get the key directly or upload it form a physical location

    2. Manually - the key should be added to /App_Data/Sitefinity folder.

We purchased the Sitefinity 3.7 Standard edition and are getting the same, intermittent error. It is for the RadDatePicker control. Do we have rights to the AJAX controls with purchase of this edition? I have tried to follow the instructions provided in the PDF, but without success. I go to your site and search for anything concerning Licenses, but am not finding anything. Please advise.

These instructions say to place LicenseFile.xml into Sitefinity folder where the post above says to place Sitefinity.lic into Sitefinity folder. Not sure which is correct. Keep in mind that the person asking the question says that he has 3.7 sp4 and yet your support says that Sitefinity.lic is correct. Please advise.

    Hi Kevin,

In the KB steps I do not see a reference to a lic file

    3.     Make sure the company name is spelled correctly.

    4.     Make sure that your license key is in a file nameLicenseFile.xml.

    5.     Make sure LicenseFile.xml is located in  ~/[YourWebsite]/Sitefinity folder.

The KB is valid for 3.x edition.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Than,

Yes, if you use Sitefinity 4.x editions. There is no Sitefinity folder under App_Data for the older editions.

    Thanks.

How does company name fit into this?

The reason I’m asking is that we are getting this message too. We acquired this CMS tool under our company (company L etc.) name but it deployed in the customer environment (company G etc.).

    Hello ,

The company name doesn't matter. The domain name is encrypted in the key and this is what we need.

    Kind regards,
