Installing and upgrading Sitefinity Thunder

Installing Sitefinity Thunder

 To install and use Sitefinity Thunder perform the following:
  1. Turn off all Visual Studio instances. 
  2. Go to Telerik Sitefinity Thunder in Visual Studio Gallery and click Download.
    This is a standard Visual Studio extension.

    NOTE: Visual Studio Express does not support extensions.

  3. Run the downloaded file.
  4. When Visual Studio Extension Installer completes, click Close.
  5. After the installation, open your project in Visual Studio.
    For more information, see Functions of Sitefinity Project Manager.
    The Thunder Start Page appears.
  6. In the main menu of Visual Studio click Telerik » Sitefinity Thunder » Install Sitefinity Thunder Module.
    A dialog box appears.
  7. Select the folder that contains the web application and click Install
  8. After installation finishes, click OK.
  9. Click Telerik » Sitefinity Thunder » Connection settings.
  10. Click Add.
  11. Fill out the following information:
    • Connection name
      Enter a name for the connection.
    • URL
      Enter the URL of the site (the site root). 
    • Username and Password
      Enter the credentials for your website.
  12. Click Test Connection.
    If the URL is correct in Membership Provider dropdown box, you see a list of the available membership providers.
  13. Select the membership provider that you want to use.
  14. Choose among the following options: 
    • Create theme backups on the server
    • Automatically upload themes on the server on save
      When you save a theme in Sitefinity Thunder it is automatically uploaded in your project.
    • This connection is active
      This makes your connection immediately active.
  15. Click OK and then click Close.
    After closing the connections window you see the themes available in you project listed in Sitefinity Explorer window. The top left icon indicates whether you are connected. On mouse hover, it displays to which connection you are currently connected.
  16. Thunder can be uninstalled or disabled from Visual Studio. 
  17. To do this, in the main menu click Tools » Extension manager.
