Create message templates

  1. On the Sitefinity CMS main menu, choose Marketing » Email Campaigns » Message templates.
    The Message templates page opens.
  2. Click Create a message template.
    The Create a message template page opens.
  3. Enter a name for the template.
  4. Select the type of template, which you want to create and click Create and go to add content.
    Choose one of the following:
    • Like a web page
      You can use multicolumn layouts and rich design. Your email campaign will look like a webpage.
      Some email clients may not interpret it correctly.
    • Rich text (HTML)
      You can create text with rich formatting, such as bold, italic, and bullets. You can insert images.
      Some email clients may not interpret the text correctly.
      Create the email campaign using the New content editor.
    • Plain text
      You cannot use any text formatting.
      Accessible to all email clients.
      Create the email campaign by entering the text in the textbox.
  5. Use Insert dynamic data dropdown box to insert different placeholders in your email campaign, such as the name and the email of the subscriber or different properties of the mailing list.
    For example, your email campaign can start like this Dear <First name of subscriber>, following is our <Default subject of mailing list>. The message can appear like this: Dear John, following is our Monthly email campaign.
    You can choose from the following placeholders:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • Subscriber email
    • Subscription reminder
    • Issue subject
    • Issue name
    • From name (issue)
    • Reply to email (issue)
    • Mailing list title
    • Mailing list subject
    • From name (mailing list)
    • Reply to email (mailing list)
    • Unsubscribe link
      NOTE: You cannot use the Unsubscribe link placeholder when creating a plain text template since plain text cannot contain links.
  6. After you select a placeholder, click Insert.
  7. When you are finished creating the page, click Save.
