Sitefinity provides functionality for manipulating tags. They are used to categorize modules based on the Generic Content
module.
 |
The Forums module is an exception as it also provides tags, and is not based on the
Generic Content module. |
The specific feature that differentiates tags from categories is that an item could contain many descriptive tags, while it could belong to one category only. When
tags are available and could be applied to a module, they are visible in the Control panel of the specific module.
The screenshot in Figure 1 demonstrates how to create a tag in a module. The Tags link (marked red) is available on the Control panel.

Figure 1
Figure 2 shows the listing of all tags created for the Generic Content module in one project:

Figure 2
The above screenshot also shows that tags could be renamed or deleted. The name of the tag is a link that leads to a page that displays all items tagged with the given tag
item. After creating a new tag, the value in the brackets will be 0, since no items have been tagged with this tag yet. This number will change once any item
is tagged with this tag.
When creating a new module or editing an existing one, there is a field "Tags" under the "Category" field (see Figure 3). There are two subsections:
for creating a new tag, and for choosing from existing tags.
 |
An item could be tagged with any number of tags, unlike Categories. |
A new tag is added by writing it in the text field and clicking Add. Existing tags are shown by clicking on one of the links: My
Tags or All Tags. An existing tag is added by clicking on the name. When a tag is added to the given content, the tag appears above the two
subsections.

Figure 3
Tags could be displayed in three different modes depending on the type of ordering: alphabetically, by popularity or in a Tag Cloud. An example of alphabetical
ordering is Figure 2. After tagging two items, Figure 4 shows the popularity ordering of all created tags. The popularity list displays the tags in decreasing order. The number in
the brackets shows that the the personal tag is added to two items, that every-day and sunlight have been added to one item, while the shared
tag has not been added to any item.

Figure 4
Figure 5 shows the tag cloud ordering of all created tags. The tag cloud displays the tags in different sizes - the bigger the size, the more popular a tag is. This
shows that the personal tag is the one added to more items than aby other tag, while the tag shared has not been added at all.
