Not answered Save but not publish?

I'm evaluating Sitefinity as a potential solution for a few CMS projects I have coming up.  I'm new to it so apologies if this is a newbie question.

I didn't see a way in the demo to save a post without publishing it.  If I create a page my options are Publish, Preview, or Cancel.  Is there not a way to make changes, save, and come back later to finish?

Also, on an existing page, is it possible to edit and save without publishing?  or to unpublish a page without deleting it?  There doesn't seem to be a way to change the published status... or am I just missing it?

in order to use the various publishing options (save, approve, publish, etc) you have to have workflow enabled in web.config:


you might want to allowpagehistory as well so you can rollback changes.

VERY helpful... thank you.  I figured it had to be possible but didn't see it in the demo so was a little confused.  I've download the demo to play with so I'll test this out.

Note that this feature (page workflow) is not available in the Sitefinity Community Edition. For details on this matter please refer to our User Manual > Page Workflow.

On your other note - yes, you are only able to create blog items with the Live Writer application. This because the Metablog APIs are clear enough for Blogs driven functionality. We are always open for new suggestions though :)

well i don't know very much (well anything really) about the metablogs api, but I will say that if the blogs are based on generic content, it would make sense to me that any other generic content module could be modified to work with it... but like I said i don't know. it would be great to be able to post other items into it with writer!

Regarding, the MetaWeblog API; I too didn't know anything about it.  But I took the plunge this past week and blogging with Sitefinity is now even easier.

i'm happy to help! I absolutely LOVE this product. I've been a web developer for a few years now, and I've always struggled to find the right cms to get behind. most are in php which I just don't like (ASP.NET all the way baby) and most .net systems are clunky or embarassingly over priced.

I actually intended to make my own, and in fact my senior project was to do this very thing. I wanted to do a lot of the things that this system does, and imagine my surprise when I discovered sitefinity (this was long after I turned in my project tho, so it was a pleasant surprise). I've never found a package that has a more perfect balance of 'built-in' functionality and a customizeability and extensibility.

so now that I've been using sitefinity for about 6 months, I'm happy to share my experience to help others get just as much use of it! as I learn more I'll help more and blog more (by the way my blog actually has three parts) and be active here as much as I can!

that being said I too am using the live writer and can confirm that it's GREAT. I used it once back in the day for my wordpress blog but since wordpress is so full featured and Live Writer was so beta I ended up ditching it. Now I can use writer to 'fill in the gaps' on a FEW missing features in sitefinity (draft, quick edits, link to flickr) that I'm sure will eventually make their way into sitefinity...

My shared host recently downgraded all sites to medium trust, and while I was able to adjust my settings so that my site didn't break (well okay admittedly it did break but I fixed it eventually!), I seem to have lost the ability to post via live writer.

is this a limitation of running in medium trust? I really enjoyed using writer to post blogs!

Is there a way to have Save and Publish, without forcing the whole approval process?  Our users just need to save and exit the editing process, and then come back to it later to finish editing and publish at a later date.

Unfortunately there is no such option in the current version. We have logged some tasks for improving that area in our future releases.
