    Sitefinity Team,

    I downloaded and installed Sitefinity 3.2 beta today and have a few questions list below:

    Personalizations Module   -- didn't see it
    Newsletter Module  -- can't find it
    Events Module -- Can't edit in the RadEditor while creating new event
    Photos & Documents Module -- Can't upload images or files
    RadControls "Prometheus"  -- didn't find any differences
    Forms Spam Protector control -- need to know more information about it
    Deny anonymous access and Show in navigation persist on child pages -- Need more information how to set it up
    Enhancements in Generic Content based modules -- didn't see the difference from user interface

    By the way I can't edit template nor adding controls into the template. same thing apply to pages too. I don't know if that's way it suppose to be.

    I am just wondering if there is anyone actually tried the Version 3.2 Beta yet. From my own experience yesterday, I just hope version 3.2 is not kind of joke because so far nothing works on the beta version.

    Personalizations Module   -- didn't see it

    Newsletter Module  -- can't find it

    Events Module -- Can't edit in the RadEditor while creating new event

    Photos & Documents Module -- Can't upload images or files

    Sitefinity Team,

    I took my last post back because everything seems to work after I reboot my laptop. I start to wonder why it doesn't work yesterday without restart my computer. I guess maybe the installation program mess up my IIS server during the installation process.

    Anyway I will post more after I played around with beta. At least I have something I can play with now. Much better than yesterday. :-)

    FYI, I didn't see the notification module in the beta, actually  that's the module I really want to see.

    Hi Telerik,

    I have been playing aroun with 3.2 for a few hours now and I must say I am excited.

    The majority of the "like to haves" that my clients are after are there... especially the images and docs module and the fact that you can now link to these things straight from the radeditro.Well done! I love that you can also use the file system if you want.

    One thing I did notice though which would be good to fix is when you use the select button for the thumbnail in news the browser asks if you want to navigate away from the page. Then again when you select the file. That little bug was in 3.1 too.

    Great work. Looking forward to the final release (Oh where is newsletter? and will simple event emails make it into 3.2)

    Thanks'

    Hi,

    In the events module by default you might need to add and extra field to the "Event Location" set of meta fields called "Name" or something like that... what do you think. Usually and event is held at:

    Narangba Community Hall
    3 Some Street
    Some City, Some State
    Country.

    You could add the "narangba Community hall" bit to the street field but that may muck up the geo data.

    Just a thought.

    Hi Tim,

    Personalizations Module   -- didn't see it
    Our guess is you looked for a Personalization tab in the Modules section and expected to find it together with Blogs, News, etc. Everyone would do that, as the name is quite misleading, actually. Sorry about that. We should have called it My Preferences instead. Please have a look at the attached image.
    However, when looking at this from the developer's perspective, it is a module in fact, as its implementation is similar to that of other Sitefinity modules.

    Newsletter Module  -- can't find it
    At the very last minute, we decided to remove that and make it wait until the official release of 3.2. However, we omitted to remove it from the What's new list, which had been prepared a little bit earlier. Sorry, for making you look for it in vain.

    Events Module -- Can't edit in the RadEditor while creating new event
    We tried creating/editing an item and we did not see any problems. Please give more details about this one.

    Photos & Documents Module -- Can't upload images or files
    Most likely, you mean the Upload your first image link. We noticed that it does not open the upload screen. You should use the Upload button instead. Image upload works fine.
    When you create a document library, Upload your first item link works fine.

    RadControls "Prometheus"  -- didn't find any differences
    That's good news:) The following RadControls "Prometheus" have been added to the Sitefinity admin part:
    RadEditor, RadWindow, RadChart, RadUpload (Libraries), RadToolTip and RadCalendar.
    In the project bin, there is a reference to the RadPrometheus suite, Telerik.Web.UI.dll. This means you can have both RadControls and RadControls "Prometheus" added to your Sitefinity toolbox and use them in user/custom controls in your applications.

    Forms Spam Protector control -- need to know more information about it
    We'll publish information about this as soon as we can. We'll also provide a sample custom strategy for detecting bots.

    Deny anonymous access and Show in navigation persist on child pages -- Need more information how to set it up
    We are talking about the Pages > Sitemap > [selected page]Properties tab.
    If you set Show in navigation to No for a page that has subpages, none of the subpages will be shown in the site navigation.
    Similarly, if you set Anonymous access (this property is visible when More Options is expanded) to Deny for a page which has subpages, all subpages will be inacessible to anonymous users and will require authentication.

    Enhancements in Generic Content based modules -- didn't see the difference from user interface
    That's good news too. There is no change in the UI. Far better performance of Generic Content public controls due to the fact that we replaced the RadEditor with its Prometheus version in all modules.
    Also, please have a look at the mighty Content View public control which is a basis for all public controls from Libraries and Blogs. Its implementation allows for easy customization.

    Kind regards,
    Rebecca

    Sitefinity Team,

    Thank you very much for your reply. I am glad to know that the newsletter and notification module will be added in the 3.2 release. I have been waiting for these two modules for quite while and finally the dream comes true.

    What happened yesterday was that I can't edit ANYTHING in the radEditor for all modules nor adding controls to templates and pages after installed 3.2 beta on my laptop(Note: didn't reboot my laptop). I was VERY frustrated.

    This morning I read the one post on the Sitefinity blog and someone indicated that everything works for 3.2 beta. I was wondering if there is anything wrong on my laptop. So I restarted my laptop and tried the beta version again. Wow, everything starts to work.

    I guess that maybe the Sitefinity installlation program might mess up my IIS service on my laptop. By restarting laptop, basically it resets the IIS service. It might be something keep in mind.

    Anyway, I am looking forward to installing the Sitefinity 3.2 final release.

    Great job!

    hi,

    Great news on the release.

    Also I needed the 'Links to CMS pages in RadEditor' feature but unfortunately I built my own yesterday before my colleague informed me about this release :)

    Anyway, I have a problem - I installed, restarted my machine but everytime I try to create a project it gives me 'Unable to create the virtual directory: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.' am I missing something, license key probably ? I tried the same on 2 machines but the same problem.

    Please suggest a fix for this, thanks

    Hello Zubair,

    It seems that this issue is related to the Internet Information Services. Please make sure that the Allow Anonymous checkbox is cleared for /telerik/Sitefinity3.2  in IIS.
    The Project Manager impersonates the ASPNET account as the currently logged user. Please check in the top right corner of the Project Manager screen what account is being used at the moment. This user should be granted full permissions to the WebSites folder. The ASP.NET machine account should also have full permissions to this folder.

    Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

    Is it possible to make use of any of the new modules from the beta with v3.1 SP2?

    the photos & documents module in 3.2 is exactly what I need for a site we have going live next week. The site is v3.1 SP2. I'm writing a file upload module but feel it's a bit of a waste of time, given 3.2 will make it redundant.

    I'm going to assume the answer is no, since the core cms changed to Prometheus, etc. in 3.2, but thought I'd ask just in case.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Thanks for providing this information, Luke. Your Telerik account has been updated for your contribution.

    Hi Kevin,
    Your guess is right, the Photos & Documents module is not compatible with Sitefinity 3.1 SP2 as there are many changes and improvements to the core of the system, as well as many dependencies that the new modules rely on.

    Hello Kevin Pipher,

    The official release of version 3.2 is scheduled for 5 March. No other betas, only SPs :)

    It is possible to add a custom meta field to Images&Docs.
    This is what you should do if you want to add a field called Caption to an image library and display it at the edit image screen.

    1. Open the project web.config file and in the <metaFields> collection, add this code:

    <add key="Libraries.Caption"
    valueType="ShortText"
    visible="True"
    searchable="True"
    sortable="True"
    defaultValue="" />

    2. In the <libraryInfosection, add Caption to metaKeys:

    <libraryInfo>
       <add name="Image" title="Image Library" defaultExtenstions=".png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif" metaKeys="Caption, Author, AlternateText, Extension, Name, Height, Width, Size, Category" />
       <add name="Document" title="Document Library" defaultExtenstions=".doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .pdf, .ppt, .pptx, .html, .xls, .xlsx" metaKeys="Caption, Author, Description, Extension, Name, Size, Category" />
       <add name="Custom" title="Custom Library" defaultExtenstions=".*" metaKeys="Caption, Author, Description, Extension, Name, Size, Category" />
    </libraryInfo>

    3. Open the ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/Libraries/ControlPanelEdit_Image.ascx, find section <sfGCn:ContentMetaFields ID="editMetaFields" runat="server"> and add this item:

    <li>
    <asp:Label ID="Label8" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="Caption"  Text="Caption"></asp:Label>
    <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="Caption" MaxLength="255" TextMode=MultiLine></asp:TextBox>
    <class="example"><asp:Literal ID="Literal10" runat="server" Text="Descriptive text that goes beneath the image" /></p>
    </li>

    See the attachment to view the result.

    If you want to add a meta field to a document or custom library, you need to edit the ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/Libraries/ControlPanelEdit.ascx file.

    Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    1.  Under Modules, click on "Create your first event"
    2.  Enter some data for the event
    3.  Click on the Cancel button to cancel creating the event
    4.  Notice that you will receive an error message: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

    I can set the max size for my thumbnails (for example 150).  For my horizontal images, it sets the max width @ 150 and for my vertical images, it sets the max height @ 150.  Is there anyway that I can have it set both height & width to 150px?  I doubt I can since it would probably involve cropping, but I figured I would ask.

    Next Question - How hard would it be to set another parameter on section 3 "Gallery Settings" to limit the full size photo to a specific height/width?  With camera resolutions expanding daily, I think I would have to put a lot of faith in my users to have them resize their images before uploading them to the site.

    Please advise.

    I realize the final release has probably already been released for testing. However, I wanted to point out that following error still occurs 3.1 SP2 if the a user is authenticated but does not a member of the necessary role for a page.

    Server Error in '/Website Application.

    This type of page is not served.

    Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden.  The extension '.aspx' may be incorrect.   Please review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

    Requested URL: /website/sitefinity/cmsentrypoint.aspx

    Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.210

    Thanks for all of the hard work. I look forward to the final release on Friday.

    Hello Ben,

    We decided to include a custom error page for the 403 exception that is thrown, so in the official release there would be a nopermissions.aspx file for this error. We hope this page will save some confusion, despite that it would be overriden in most cases.

    Images/Documents Suggestions/Feedback:

    1) When I click on Batch Edit Titles and Tags, I am unable to filter content by category by selecting the various categories from the DropDownList.
    2)  When I click on the Categories view, I am unable to see "Uncategorized" as a category.
    3) When I view the Categories view, I am unable to select the name of the category, rather, I must select the number of items in the category which is non-intuitive.
    4) When uploading images, I am unable specify a category at the same time that I am uploading the images.
    5) When uploading images as a .zip file, I should be able to click on an Add button which allows me to upload additonal .zip files (similar to connect.microsoft.com)
    6) When uploading content as a .zip file, I am unable to view a progress bar or animated gif indicating the progress of my upload operation.
    7) When click on a Tag from the Tags view, I am unable to view the actual library content
    8) When I have just uploaded new content, I am unable to add a new category at the same time in the manner in which I am able to add new tags for my content.
    9) When creating a library, I am unable to create a custom library while specifying the custom extensions I would like for my custom library (such as .mov, .mpeg, .avi, .swf etc.)
    10) When viewing my images in the Library mode, I am unable to see the associated category directly from the Image preview mode.  Ideally, I would be able to view this information either above or below the image or through a mouse over/mouse hover event as in a tooltip.
    11) In the Library preview mode, I am unable to specify how many images I wish to display on each page of the preview.
    12) In the Categories view, I would like to see a hierarchy of each category and all of its associated tags in a tree view navigation structure.
    13) In the Library preview mode, I am unable to select a "View by category" to filter out all of my content by a specific selected category.
    14) In the Library preview mode, there is currently no option to preview my content as a Slideshow as I am able to accomplish using SharePoint.
    15) When I click on Batch Edit Titles and Tags and click on the Cancel button, I receive an error message "The given key was not present in the dictionary"

    Images/Documents Suggestions/Feedback

    1) When I click on the List view for my Images Library, I am forced to download each image one at a time.  I should instead be able to select multiple items and then download them as a single .zip file.

    Images/Documents Suggestions/Feedback

    1) When working with Libraries, I am unable to click on the breadcrumbs in the navigation to go back to the Libraries view and begin creating Libraries again.
    2) The All Libraries view should be exposed as a tree view rather than forcing you to click on the link to go to a new page.
    3) The All Libraries view should also provide a right click pop-up menu option similar to the Files view for creating new Libraries.
    4) In the Boxes view for the Images libraries, the Camera icon seems to indicate that you have the option to provide a thumbnail preview of the content that is contained in the library.  However, there is no such option or setting available to provide a thumbnail preview of the image content or a default option as is available in folders using Windows Explorer.
    5) In the Image Library preview, I am unable to sort the view or re-arrange the thumbnails view either through a numbering system or a drag and drop system for re-arranging which images appear in which order for the Library preview.
    6) In the Library preview mode, by default the image names do not even appear in ascending alphabetical order.  The images are sorted randomly.

    Images/Documents Suggestion:

    1) When viewing the images in the Library preview mode, I should be able to either right click on the Image for editing or view the Original size of the image rather than having to click on the Image twice before I can view the original size of the image.

    Files Feedback:

    1) Now that you offer the ability to upload a .zip file and then extract the contents of the .zip file for Images/Documents, you should offer a similar capability for the Files view.  Either this should be done or the Files view should be replaced with the feature capabilities of the Images/Documents module.

    In the Dashboard of SiteFinity 3.2, the link on the Dashboard still points to SiteFinity 3.1 forum rather than SiteFinity 3.2 forum.

    1) In the Dashboard of SiteFinity v. 3.2, the option should also be available to expand and collapse each of the items in the Dashboard similar to the capabilities provided by Web Parts.  Currently, if you hide a panel or close a panel, you have to go back into Dashboard settings in order to re-enable it rather than just being able to expand or collapse it out of your view as required.
    2) The Dashboard should be set up similar to a Web Part page so that you can drag and drop elements of the Dashboard to different areas of your screen as part of your preferences rather than managing everything through Drop Down Lists.

    Hi James,

    You can achieve the desired behavior easily with Sitefinity. Remember "Built for developers"?

    These are the steps you need to follow in order to accomplish your task:

    1. Unzip the attached file in your website directory.
    2. Add this line to the <toolboxControls> section of your application web.config:

    <add name="MyGallery" section="Custom Controls" type="MyGallery, App_Code" />

    3. Go to edit your page and drag and drop MyGallery control from the toolbox section "Custom Controls".
    4. When you edit it, you will see that you can add Height and Width to your thumbnails.

    Hope this helps!

    In SiteFinity 3.2, I have been using the Telerik.Cms.dll in my User Control as a reference and I have noticed that when I now reference v. 3.2 of this new DLL, I am unable to use the ICmsUrlContext in my page, thus causing my User Control to break.  Is there a way to fix this or has the API changes so that I can continue to use my User Control?  I wrote a User Control which hooked into the Telerik CMS API to display information regarding my Pages such as Page Name, Date Modified etc.

    Thanks.

    I just recently downloaded the community version and just barely got started with the product. Should I switch now to 3.2 or will it be easier to upgrade from the community edition than the beta

    Thanks

    Hello,

    1. Sitefinity Community edition v3.2 has been released and is now available from your Client.net account. You'd better upgrade your project to the new version, as we have included Users and Permissions :)

    2. What are the exact steps for reproducing the problem with the blog and comment editing in IE7?

    3. Spell Checker in the RadEditor will be enabled for the upcoming SP.

    4. ICmsUrlContext interface was removed to Telerik.Framework assembly but it is still in Telerik.Cms.Web namespace.

    Meta fields for Libraries doesn't work for me

    I put this into metFields part of web.config

    <add key="Libraries.ItemAlias" valueType="ShortText" visible="True" searchable="false" sortable="false" defaultValue=""/>

    I edit Control and put TextBox inside of
     <sfGCn:ContentMetaFields ID="editMetaFields" runat="server"> ItemTemplate

    And it simply doesn't work.

    Hi kaan,

    Also, in the <libraryInfo> section of the web.config file, you need to add ItemAlias to metaKeys. Here is an example if you want to achieve this for libraries of type Image:

    <libraryInfo>
    …
    <add name="Image" title="Image Library" defaultExtenstions=".png,
    .jpg, .jpeg, .gif" metaKeys="Author, ItemAlias, AlternateText,
    Extension, Name, Height, Width, Size, Category" />
    </libraryInfo>

    Also, make sure you have edited the right template:
    ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/Libraries/ControlPanelEdit_Image.ascx - represents the edit template for libraries of type Image
    ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/Libraries/ControlPanelEdit.ascx - represents the edit template for Document and Custom libraries

    Hope this helps.

    Sincerely yours,
    Pepi
