Hello,

I have created new master pages in the app_master directory. I have included the registration and updated the form tags. But the new masterpage does not appear in my list of masterpages in the admin section.

However, if I upload the masterpage, it all works fine.

Is there a way to add materpages (without having to upload them via the admin) through visual studio ?

Hello Imran,

Thank you for your interest in our CMS and contacting us.

You cannot see your master page in the templates section of Sitefinity because the only time when templates are automatically created from the master pages in the App_Master directory is when the application is started. And when you try to add a master page in a later stage you do not see it. So the only way to create template from your master page would be to upload it via Sitefinity admin part or to restart the application.

Does this include SiteFinity picking up updates to a .master page?

We are having an issue where the App_Master/homepage.master is being updated manually using Expressions Web and it is still using the older master page. I thought it was a caching issue until I created a new template and uploaded the more up to date master page.

Is there a way to upload a newer version of a template/masterpage to an existing sitefinity template?

Hello Brian,

Please try restarting the application after making updates in a given .master page. As a matter of principle, when you make changes to the physical file of the master page, they should be automatically reflected on the Sitefinity template, associated with this master page. You could also try using Visual Studio for updating your master pages instead of Expressions Web.
