  • The Simplicity and Flexibility of Sitefinity were just what the BASF Executives were Looking for

    • Industry: Not for profit
    • Background: With business partners in over 200 countries, about 97,000 employees and close to 330 production sites, BASF is the world’s leading chemical company and also a leading global producer of vitamin A for human nutrition. BASF engages in programs in over 30 developing countries to help alleviating vitamin A malnutrition. The company offers special vitamin A products for fortification of staple foods. These meet exceptional requirements in stability and efficacy even under extreme climatic conditions.
    • Challenge: The new BASF website focusing on Fortification of Staple Foods needs to be updated by various users from different countries. Therefore it is important that the CMS is user-friendly and easy to understand. BASF must be able to assign different rights to users in combination with a workflow management system to enable the publication of specific content.
    • Why Sitefinity: The Food Fortification Division has very limited IT resources and needs a reliable CMS solution that is easy to maintain. For us as an agency Sitefinity was found to be the best solution. Its flexibility and extensibility options gave us the freedom to easily adapt the CMS to the needs of the end client. In addition the modular form provided us with a system that can be expanded as required.
    • Technical Details: The website was programmed within 28 days in ASP.NET, SQL Server, Sitefinity CMS, AJAX and JavaScript. Three members of the AAG team worked on the project.
    • Results: Sitefinity proved to be the ideal platform for the support and tailor-made implementation of the specific technical requirements. We were able to adhere exactly to our timetable and hence had no problems with going live.

  • The Challenge

The challenge was to implement BASF’s new corporate identify and in addition integrate an easily operated CMS. The previous website was set up in 2001 without CMS; some existing controls such as a Vitamin Calculator had to be included in the new site. New functions were also added – these included a link to an area of the BASF Intranet (also set up with Sitefinity) where news and events can be managed centrally.

    The Solution

After the presentation by Sitefinity, BASF Food Fortification commissioned AAG to implement this project in full, thus making clear that Sitefinity is the right solution.   The simplicity and flexibility of Sitefinity were just what the BASF executives were looking for.

The main benefit of the CMS implementation is the connecting of several Sitefinity projects within the BASF organization which operates many websites worldwide.  For example, all news and events are managed in the intranet Sitefinity project. In the same time, the corresponding public internet sites are connected to the intranet project’s  database and via custom controls it is possible to choose which of the news and events to show in which internet site. So one person can edit these posts from one place and changes are reflected on several sites.
Due to the fact, that all BASF sites derived from the same style guide, a new site can be created easily by exporting an existing project. Sitefinity’s reusable templates and modules can be easily implemented for all BASF’s websites and portals.

    The Results

BASF Food Fortification now has a clear, professional and easy-to-manage website with the advantage of a user-friendly interface for maintaining the modules and website.  The effectiveness of the data structure and the easiness of editing save a lot of time and money for the customer.

The client’s satisfaction with the results demonstrates to us that we have got things exactly right with this project. We shall continue to work with Sitefinity in the future.
