Is it possible for an administrator to initiate/start an article in a blog via by emailing it to a specified address picked up by the CMS?

The flow would be as follows:

    1. User posts an initial question from the website via a form
    2. Administrator receives email notification containing the users question
    3. Administrator writes a response in the email with the original question which is then sent to the 'blog email address'
    4. The original question and Guru response are posted on the blog

In addition we would ideally like to set which category in the blog the article should be posted to. This could possible be by placing a keyword for the category in the subject line or in the message. Or potentially each category would have a different email address.

Can anyone tell me if this would be possible by default in Sitefinity or possibly with some custom programming?

    Many Thanks

    Hi Steven,

Importing email content as Sitefinity content can be easily achieved - you'll need to create a new publishing point. This can be done by going to Administration -> Feeds & Notifications, and clicking on Create a feed. From the Content to include settings you will configure the content to be imported via a pop3inbound pipe, by selecting Email as an option.
Once you've configured the content to include, you can go to Publish as... and configure the incoming content to be pulled as Sitefinity content -> blog post.
Concerning the from email notification, this forum thread contains a detailed discussion and several solutions on the topic, I believe you might find it useful.
What remains is your last request about assigning a category to the item with the email. It is possible to configure the pipe mappings when setting up the Content to include and Publish as... , however the email has a limited number of fields that you can choose among to dedicate for specific field of the newly created Sitefinity content item. Please take a look at the attached screenshots for a better idea on what I'm talking about. For more information on how the opublishing system in Sitefinity works, and guidance on creating custom pipes, you can also browse this KB article.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know, we'll be glad to help.

    All the best,

    Thanks for the reply Boyan.

We have the first part working and will look at posting to categories next.

One other thing we want to do is to allow the blog admin to email comments to an existing blog article. Is there a method for doing this?

    Many Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steven,

That's a tough one, we do have POP3 inbound pipe, so receiving the email is not a problem, however you'll need to create and register an outbound pipe for comments, similar to the one we have attached as a sample to this KB article.
