We had the following problem. When an editor hit the publish button after making an edit, sitefinity frooze and could only be used again after closing and opening  the browser.

We spent an enormous amount of time finding the problem by restoring back-ups of our database and sitefinity installation untill we could pinpoint the differences between the last working and the first non-working versions. After a lot of trying (removing new controls, inspecting new javascripts etc.) we found that the existence of the following file caused the problem:

Deleting that file solved our issue. Because that was quite miraculous we would like to know what that file is and does.

Any thoughts on whether this was really the issue or people having simular experiences would also be very welcome.

    Hi Zumrut CIM,

Please accept our apologies for the delayed response.

The syncFile.sync is being created during indexing to avoid two index services to perform operations over the index files at the same time. After the indexing service completes its work the file deleted.

In your case most probably indexing didn't finish properly and the file has been left, which actually was causing every other indexing service started later to wait until file is removed. And if your index is set to AutoIndex, on every Publish for pages, it will fire indexing service event in order to add or update the index with the edited page contents.

Could you please send us information about your Sitefinity version? Thanks!

    Best wishes,
