When I create a template from scratch it seem the width of the place holders (wrapper) is set to 920.

Wanted to make an 800 px wide template to be used for fancybox popup.

    - Does that make sense
    - should I give it a class to overwride with css
    - make my own .master to start off

The width of the sf_colsOut sf_1col_1_100 div, which is keeping the information, is changed to 800px. Please review the screenshot. If you want to change the width of the PublicWrapper div you need to change the backend theme of the project. You can use the default backend theme (located in a .zip file in the SDK) and change the css. Then you should register it as a Custom backend theme in Administration -> Settings -> Appearance.

Please refer to this forum thread for further reference.

The other option that you have is to use a CSS widget, place it on the page and change the width of the div using its class PublicWrapper. Please not that you should use !import to override the default css.
