    Is there a place in the back end of the site to edit the Search  and Login widgets or is that something i need to do in a .aspx page?

    There is no publicly accessible widget template available.  You would need to change the LayoutTemplatePath to a custom .ascx file you you create (See Attached).  Use JustDecompile to copy the current template and then place you modifications.
