    Hey All,

I have been taking a look at sitefinity as a potential candidate for a base platform on top of which I would develop some basic applications.

The type of applications I'm thinking of would include concepts such as:

    - User Accounts
    - Custom Permissions - such as restricting users to access their own images / documents
    - Custom Modules - Enhance some of the base modules to include extras like watermarking images dynamically.

Without laboring the entirety of what I'm looking to achieve, is using the community edition a viable route? I noted that permissions are not a feature provided by the community edition, but I'm not sure to what extent they can't be used.

I can appreciate this is a bit of a vague question but any input on the details of what security / permission restrictions are enforced by the community edition would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks!

    Hi Matt Woodward,

    Thank you for evaluating Sitefinity.

Unfortunatelly what you are trying to achieve for your web site is not going to be possible with the Community Edition. As far as user management goes in the CE, Sitefinity only allows you to have registered users and non registered user. But if you want for example to restrict certain sections of the site to certain groups of users - I am afraid that this will not be possible with the CE. These are the kind of permissions that are not available in the Community Editions, and unfortunately these are the kind of permissions that you will need to implement for your web site.

Otherwise the other two functional requirements are feasible withing the Sitefinity Community Edition.
