    Hello all!

    I'm having a difficult time using the CreateUserWizard control. I added some methods that fire during the CreatedUser event. However, if one of them throws an exception, the wizard just advances to the last step. I can't figure out how to show a custom error message.

    Does anyone have a working example? MSDN has been useless to me for this.

    Hello Doug Dawson,

    Thank you for contacting using our services.

    To my knowledge the CreatedUser event cannot be canceled. You will have to cancel the CreatingUser event:
    protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
        this.CreateUserWizard.CreatingUser += new LoginCancelEventHandler(CreateUserWizard_CreatingUser);
        this.CreateUserWizard1.CreatedUser += new EventHandler(CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser);
    void CreateUserWizard_CreatingUser(object sender, LoginCancelEventArgs e)
            throw new MembershipCreateUserException("Message");
        catch (MembershipCreateUserException ex)
            e.Cancel = true;

    Similar discussion on this can found here.

    Sincerely yours,
