It seems like this is a feature that should be configurable within Sitefinity, but all I have found is various solutions for implementing email notifications in code.  Since business users aren't typically hovering in the CMS waiting for content to review/approve, I would think notification would really be more uniformly address/documented in every release of your product.  So far, these forums have compensated for most of the shortcomings in features and documentation, so I'm hoping you can help out again.

I have used this solution for page notifications and it works pretty well.

However, I also have the following types of content:
    (1) generic content (shared)
    (2) documents and images
    (3) news

If any of these content items are changed, they should also go through the approval workflow.  Enabling the approval workflow itself was easy enough - but now I need to handle notifications.  There is a posting on enabling notification for news, but the documentation is already broken at step one - it refers to ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/ControlPanelEdit.ascx.cs which does not exist in my Sitefinity 3.7 installation.

Can you please provide guidance on how I can implement notifications for the aforementioned types of content?

    Thanks

    Hello clayman,

Thank you for using our services.

Since this article relates to an older version of Sitefinity, where control templates have not been embeedded you need to first donwload the External Templates archive for your version of Sitefinity and add them to your project. Once this is done the file that you would be looking at is ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/NewsItemPreview.ascx. Attached is the reworked code for the control template code file. You should map the template in order to make the NewsItemPreview control use your template.

I want to let you know that in Sitefinity 4.0 we will have new implementation of workiflow which will allow this by default.
