One of the items I've seen in a lot of CMS packages is the capability to create forms through a WYSIWYG editor. Is there any plan of making a Forms Module available in Sitefinity? I'd basically like to upload documents to the library and allow users to download a document only after they complete a form (like a lead generation form). Thoughts or ideas?

    Thanks.

Just to add my two cents. I would also find this type of module very useful.

    Hi Kevin Pipher,

Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry for delaying our response.

We don't have any plans for creating such module. It would be definitely helpful if anyone could create such forms on the fly, so we are logging this as a feature request, but cannot commit any time frame for implementing it in Sitefinity.
Since Sitefinity could be used as a framework, you can develop anything you would like to achieve.
In case the file that should be downloaded is stored in a library (e.g. in database), you could simply use the Libraries API, because there is already a functionality for permissions. Then you could develop a user control, that submit the users credentials.

We will discuss this suggestion for sure. Let us know if we can assist you with anything else.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi,

A forms module I think is one of the biggest missing components in Sitefinity. If it was available, it would go a long way while selling to my clients. Ektron and DotNetNuke have modules available for letting end users build forms by themselves. Forms can include surveys.

Also, if there was tighter integration between the documents module and security, it would go a long way too. Like being able to specify at the file level, which users or groups can access a document.

    Hello J,

We understand this need. As for the security, we have plans to implement security per items not only for libraries but for the other modules as well.

Thank you once again for your suggestions.

Most clients today want to be able to build forms directly by themselves specially with the whole lead generation that is happening in conjunction with the search engine marketing.

This company was brought to our notice recently-
    http://kentico.com/getdoc/07448b40-6e4b-4084-a0dd-339231e842b4/On-line-forms.aspx

In addition to what they offer, I'd like the ability to be able to select a thank you page or message along with the option to download an asset (that was uploaded to the images and documents module).

Sorry for being a pain about this but I want Sitefinity to win and unless the forms module is available out of the box, it is going to be pretty difficult to sell Sitefinity to clients.

    Hi J M,

First of all, you are not a pain - the feedback is always valuable to us.

We believe that even if we don't provide a given functionality out of the box, our CMS provides developers the opportunity to use API functions, so they have a good basis to develop on.

We consider and discuss every suggestion we get. Since we cannot commit to any time frame for the Forms Module, we can definitely assure you, that your suggestion will be considered.

    Thank you once again.

    Hi All,

I just wanted to throw my $0.02 in too. I also feel a Forms Engine is missing from Sitefinity and that the product would be much enhanced with one.  I have a potential client who is on ViaDesto (a product that was pretty good 5 years ago, but has made few upgrades and is now serious weak sauce.  I showed them Sitefinity and they loved it, but when I got to the proposal stage and saw they had a dozen forms and I'd have to build them all for them (and charge them a lot to do it), they started to get cold feet.  They were confused because their old CMS had it and the other proposal they got (for Joomla) had it.

I'm going to research a 3rd party Forms Engine that would plug into SF since I have a big need for a form generation tool that the clients can use, but if you guys will release this soon (it's been 3 months since your last post, so maybe you've reconsidered and have a timeline?) then I may be able to hold off or find something less robust (just to create these initial forms).

Any chance you'll release Forms Generation in version 4.0?

Thanks a lot, Sitefinity kicks ASS!!!

    Ben

PS And while you're at it, I'd love a shopping cart module too ;)

yes this is exactly the functionality i need.

If someone would like to write one and share with the community that would be great

...i must admit, we've started to look at kentico because of this and the ecommerce lack of functionality.

    Dear all,

    Thank you for the recommendations.

This is to let you know that we have started to work on the specifications for a Sitefinity Forms Module.
The implementation is planned to start next month. We are planning tentatively to release it officially at the beginning of the next year.

We will take your requirements into consideration. Feel free to submit more ideas and suggestions for implementation.

Thanks again for your ideas and continuous support.

Excellent (apart from the timescale) but better to have quality. Any chance of pre-release go-lives? Whatever, please count me in as a beta tester if needed.

Amen!  I assume this will be released with 4.0 (as it sounds like similar time-frame)?

Thanks for working on this, and if it's written as something that could be added earlier, I'm sure we'd all love that, too!

Thanks again!!!  You guys kick ass!

Forms creation (and some options around it) would be HUGE in selling services to clients.  If they know all they need to do is fill out an admin interface and they can start collecting/emailing the results to themselves or what have you it would be huge.

    GO TELERIK!

Please add us to the Beta list too. We've used Ektron, Kentico, DotNetNuke, and of course Sitefinity. The addition of a Forms module is going to make it so much more easier for us to sell Sitefinity. Here are some features that I've seen implemented in the other CMS packages.

    - Ability to drag and drop field types into a WYSIWYG editor. Basically, have icons for dragging a textbox (for example)
    - Being able to configure the form so that forms submissions can be written to a database and also emailed to multiple people
    - Reports of submitted data
    - Post form data to a specific URL (like if the data needed to be sent to a CRM like Safesforce.com or NetSuite.com)
    - Ability to configure the response message after successfully submitting the form. Being able to specify a message or redirect the user to a specific page
    - Add validators to fields

From a lead generation standpoint, the following will make you stand out significantly:
    - Redirect to a page after form submission and the page cannot be accessed by typing our the URL in the browser unless the specific form has been submitted
    - Be able to drag the configured forms into other pages (so landing pages can be created easily)

Hope this helps and we look forward to helping out with Beta testing.

One other feature that would be great is the ability to send an email to the visitor after submitting the form. The ability to customize the email that is sent out would be great. This is almost like an auto-responder email.

At, Gray Web Technology and Design, our lead R&D/Tech Guy created a great dynamic form control. It allows users to create forms VIA XML files. It's a great control, but missing that easy functionality for our clients.

I myself am working on my own website outside of work and I would LOVE to be involved in some of the testing. If at all possible I would love to be in on the testing. I can't wait for this feature to come out, if it does at all.
