    Hello, as a novice user, I'm having troubles linking to one child webpage from two (or more) parent pages.  Right now, if linking from a different parent page from the original parent, it will default as showing a link from the original parent page without copying and creating a new page and saving/loading to each different parent page.  Any thoughts/suggestions?  Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

    In order to help you we need some more details of your settings. Please see and provide as much information as you could to the following questions:

    How do you add this link?
    • Through the UI?
      • In a Generic Content?
    • Through code?
    Please provide more information for the problem:
    • Is the generated link incorrect?
    • Is there a bug in the UI?

    It would help us if you could walk us through the problem, if you provide any of the following:
    • screenshot
    • step-by-step description of
      • what you do
      • what happens
      • what is expected

    We are looking forward to your reply.

    Hello,
    Thanks for your response.  To give you a better idea of my initial question, I've provided additional info below;

    How do you add this link?
    • Through the UI? yes; from the site map, I'm trying to link one page to two seperate parent pages;
      • In a Generic Content? no - the page itself
    • Through code?
    Please provide more information for the problem:
    • Is the generated link incorrect?  no
    • Is there a bug in the UI? no

    It would help us if you could walk us through the problem, if you provide any of the following:
    • screenshot; having troubles pasting a screenshot into this forum, is there an email address or FTP I can send/upload directly?
    • step-by-step description of
      • what you do; create a 3rd tier page within the site map, trying to link to two seperate 2nd  tier parent pages
      • what happens; right now, the 3rd tier page is saved under parent page 'A' with links from Parent 'A' and Parent 'B'.  when linking to third tier page from parent 'B' - it shows up in the navigation as linking from 'A' in lieu of 'B'
      • what is expected; trying to link to the 3rd tier page from both 'A' and 'B' parent page, with each respective parent page being highlighted when linking through it to the 3rd tier page.
        • right now - the only solution I can find is creating a duplicate page under each parent page.  This will almost double the pages on our site and will make editing more time-consuming, having to edit two exact/duplicate pages with the same content.

    Hey Andy,

    I'm having trouble understanding your goal, however the paragraph shown above made me wonder if External Links might be what you're looking for.

    It sounds like you're creating the following the following SiteMap:

    [Root]
      - Section A
          - Page 1
       - Section B
          - Page 1

    You want Section B -> Page 1 to be a duplicate of Section A -> Page 1.

    Instead of duplicating the page, just make Section B -> Page 1 an external link that points to Section A -> Page 1.  No duplicates are needed, but the same page would be exist in both sections.

    Hi Gabe,
    Still a little confused on this - per your response;
     - do I need to make 'Page 1' an 'external page'?
     - I can link to 'Page 1' from text on the pages of Section A and Section B - the problem is that; when I link to Page 1 from Section B, Section A is highlighted in the navigation.
     - I need to link to Page 1 from both Section A and Section B, with each respective Section being highlighted when linking from either page.

    Does this help?  Let me know if you want to do a quick Gotomeeting for me to walk you through this...  Thanks!
    Andy

    Hello Andy,

    If you create page1 as external page the parent in the navigation control should be highlighted.( Probably you are using RadMenu or RadPanelBar.) Also you could get the RadMenuItem and check the item.NavigateUrl then set item.CssClass of the parent item.

    Kind regards,

    Hello,

    This thread has caught my eye - as a "problem" I am trying to solve runs along similar lines...

    I am building a Sitefinity site. All the site's pages are to contain a main site menu auto-generated using the inbuilt "site menu" navigation control. Thus I am structuring the sitemap layout using the Sitefinity Admin Site Map feature. I can drag & drop physical pages from one location to another... to rearrange their order displayed within the "site menu" and as to which "parent page" a "child page" belongs to.

    But (like Andy's situation) my requirements are that a Sitefinity generated "Regions" page is a "child page" of BOTH "Structure" and "Links". Obviously I can easily drag & drop "Regions" between the two "parent pages" - but this physical move just changes it's parent from one to the other... rather than making it a child of both.

    I have read Ivan's response about making the child page an external page... but doesn't that mean that (a) it won't actually show in the "site menu" control? and (b) that the page itself won't be editable via the Sitefinity Admin area? I shall have to re-read up on external pages.

    Regards,
    m.

    Hi martin,

    The external pages will be added to the SiteMap and navigation control you use( SiteMenu). The page type is external. So you can access them easily subscribing for RadMenu1_ItemDataBound event.

    node.PageType == CmsPageType.External

    The external pages cannot be edited through Sitefinity page edit mode.

    Hello Ivan,

    Thanks for the swift reply.

    So, to clarify... using the Sitefinity Admin area can I create two totally separate "sitefinity" pages (positioned differently within the sitemap) but BOTH of these "sitefinity" pages actually reference back to an individual (external) HTML file, housed in the "Files" directory... yes?

    Cheers,
    m.

    Hello martin,

    You can create two or more external pages that are located in a folder of your project or directly type the url to the page live page.

    Thanks for continuing this thread 'M' - I was still a little confused and as a beginner on sitefinity/web-development, am still a little confused on the process of creating two distinct 'external' pages within the sitefinity site map.  Ivan/Sitefinity team - can you send me a brief, step by step process flow to execute this?  Thanks again for all your help,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

    The external page is a dummy page. We keep the urol and the title of the page in Sitefinity SiteMap. Basically you create an external page that you cannot manage through Sitefinity and we keep the external link of this page in the SiteMapDataSource.
