    Hi,
I am evaluating the Sitefinity product. I downloaded SiteFinity 3.6 (sitefinity_3_6_1936_standard_trial.exe) and installed it on my local machine. I setup the International University sample site.

Now, when I try to access the administration area for this site, I am presented with a login page. I entered the username & password ('admin' for both) and clicked login and the page just refreshed. There was no message informing me on invalid credentials.

So after hunting around, I found the article about resetting a password. I tried changing the PasswordFormat to 0 and attempted to login. Again, no luck.

So I started to debug the project in Visual Studio 2008 and I discover that the login control is not peforming a postback. Therefore, that Authenticate is not being fired.

I have not changed any of the code that was supplied. Can you assist?

    Regards
    Kevin

    Hi KevinQ,

If you run the website under Classic pipeline mode, does this make difference? Can you try to access the back end by url (/sitefinity/admin/Pages.aspx) after you supply your credentials to the login form. If you use different browser are you able to access the back end?

Let us know if the problem persists.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi Ivan,
    Thanks for the speedy response.

The browser I am using is Internet Explorer 7. I am not sure what you mean by running it in Classic pipeline mode. I am running IIS 5.1 and the Sitefinity install created virtual directories for the sample site.

I am not able to acces the back end even after attempting the logon. I am sure that the login button is just not firing the postback event, thus no authentication is taking place at all.

I tried running SiteFinity in Firefox and I was able to login and access the administration area.

Our preferred browser is Internet Explorer so I would like to see it working in IE. Can you think of a reason why postback is not working in IE?

    Regards
    Kevin

    Hello,
I managed to fix this. The problem was the login button on the login page was not firing the postback event, so I was unable to login. This was only a problem in IE. Firefox worked fine. After googling around, I found the following article

You cannot post data to a non-NTLM-authenticated Web site
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=251404

From what I understand, if you visit an NTLM authenticated folder i.e http://localhost/telerik/Sitefinity3.6/ which is Windows Authenticated and then visit an anonymous access folder i.e http://localhost/telerik/tiusite_v3.6_sp2/sitefinity/login.aspx then you won't be able to post data. I guess that is why the postback was failing.

So I enabled both Anonymous & Windows Authentication in IIS for the virtual directory http://localhost/telerik/tiusite_v3.6_sp2. After I did this I was able to successfully login to the administrative area using Internet Explorer.

    Regards
    Kevin
