    Hello Quade,

You cannot sort items by publication time out of the box, except for the events module, and event items. You are able to do that with little modifications of the module that holds the items you want to sort. We suggest you to add new meta field. You could use the shipped RadDateTimePicker control, to select the publication time. Then you can sort by that field.
For information about adding a new meta field, please follow the instructions in the User Manual -> Working With Modules-> Customizing Modules, section Adding Custom Fields.

I hope the provided information is helpful. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have other questions.

    All the best,

    Hello Quade,

before adding a new metafield (as Georgi has explained), you can try to edit the ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/ControlPanelInsert.ascx and ~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/ControlPanelEdit.ascx templates and replace the RadDatePicker control with ID of "Publication_Date" to RadDateTimePicker control (leave all the properties intact, only the control should be changed).

The actual problem is that our UI is sending only the information about date, but not the time. However, the code and the database are well equipped to work with time as well. So if the user interface sends the time information as well (as I have described in first paragraph), you should be able to publish news on the particular time.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

    All the best,

    Hi Quade,

I don't believe you need to create an extra field for the Publication time.

We changed the RadDatePicker control on the Publication_Date to RadDateTimePicker about 8 months ago and everything seems to be functioning fine.

We sort news items by Publication_Date and publish multiple news items a day in a intranet environment and they always fall in exactly the right date time order even if several are published one after the other.

We have activated workflow on all modules and use the Publication_Date with the field with the
RadDateTimePicker control to time news items to go out at exact times in the day. I can confirm that if a News item is approved and published it will not go live until the date and time has passed.

t least this is how it is working now for us using the older NewsList control and I hope that still continues to work with the new contentView news list coming out shortly.

    Hope this helps,

    Seth
