Can sitefinity link a pdf? I have an image that I would like people to open as an Adobe PDF. I want to have a small JPEG image and when a person clicks on that image it opens as a PDF. Can sitefinity do this and how?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,

Yes, this is possible. Following are the steps to do it, but have in mind that this wors only in Internet Explorer. There are issues in other browsers with this approach, and they will be fixed in the upcoming Service Pack (end of March).

    Do the following steps:
    1. Upload PDF file in the Files folder in the File Manager
    2. Create a page
    3. Add Generic Content control
    4. Edit Generic Content control
    5. Insert an image in the Rad Editor
    6. Select the image and click on the "Insert a link" icon
    7. Click on the "Select a page from this site" link for the "URL address" field
    8. Select PDF file from the File Manager and press "I'm done" button
    9. Click on the "Insert" button in the "Insert a link" dialog
    10. Click on the "I'm done" button for the "Generic Content" control
    11. Publish the page.

If you have any problems, don't hesitate to contact us.

    Hey,
When I'm editing in the Generic Content area, I have an "Image Manager" and "Flash Editor" among other things; however I don't see a "Rad Editor." What am I missing here?

    Thanks!

    Hello Jennifer,

Thank you for getting back  to us.

Generally, Generic Content control is represented by RadEditor control. More information at Upload Images and Documents with RadEditor and Public Controls Overview. Let us know if you need further assistance in this matter.

Okay, I have Sitefinity 3.0. Is this something only 3.2 has? And if so, how do I go about getting the update?
    Thanks,
    Kim

    Hi Jennifer,

As I see you want to convert JPEG to PDF - so when a user clicks on an JPG it should be opened as PDF. Sitefinity does not support this functionality. You could try implementing this functionality using externel libraries. Take a look at http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

    All the best,

    Hello,
Okay, so now Sitefinity can't support a PDF?

Also, what's the best way to get the update?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jennifer,

Sitefinity supports PDFs, but not in the way you want - click JPEG which will open as PDF. As for the update - check out our Upgrade instructions
