I've set up the news module and have created my first news item. I don' t have a problem getting the news item on the page, but it's the display of the full story that I"m having a problem with.

It seems I have two options:
    1. Auto-generate a page that is the same as items list page - When I select this I do see the full story but not in the template of my site. It's more of a jumbled page with a white box in the middle with the story.

    2.
    - I've tried to create a new page to house this info and then select that page for this option, but I get the canned error message when I click on the news link.

I guess ideally I just need to know how to "especially prepare" a page to house the full story and have it display in a site template. Thanks so much for your time in answering this newbie question.

both the newslist and the single news display inside of the NewsView control, so if you make a separate page and link to it, make sure that second page also has a newsview control. it should automatically switch to "details" view since it's being passed a specific news item.

if you want it to load in the same page and it is garbled, take a look at the ListPageDetails.ascx control template in the /sitefinity/controltemplates/news/modes folder. you may need to set css stylings in the /sitefinity/controltemplates/news folder as well to match your site style.

    I hope this was helpful!

Thanks so much for your response.

I tried putting the newsview on the second page (the one I'm using as the full story display page) but it doesn't automatically convert to the "details" view as you said. It simply shows another newsview module that needs configuration. So then I just in essence have 2 newsview pages with no page to link to.

I've tried many variations including having the second page link to itself, tried linking to the second page before dropping the newsview module on it thinking that might make a difference. All to no avail.

Any other ideas? I don't have a technical person here at the office today to address your second option.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Which version of Sitefinity are you using? There were issues with the News module with the 3.1 and 3.2 versions, but these issues have been resolved in the 3.5 build. Have you tried upgrading to our latest release and seeing if the problem persists? You should not need to place two controls on two separate pages in your scenario, just use the NewsView control.

    Sincerely yours,
    Joe

    Joe-
Thanks. We went to the upgrade page but it talks about unzipping an archive file. We do we get that? Thanks!
