    Hi,
    I've added the summary control to my news settings as described in an earlier post. However when I enter a number into the "Display the first xxx words of the item" textbox and save, the setting does not take effect. If I check the summary setting again the text box is blank.

    I have added this to my NewsViewControlDesigner.ascx in admin.

    <sfDesignSettings:ContentSetting id="ContentSetting1" TargetID="Summary" runat="server">

    </sfDesignSettings:ContentSetting>

    I'm not sure what else I could be missing.

    Thanks.
    Simon

    Hello Simon,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    Try removing the NewsView control from the page, add it again and check whether the problem persists. I am not able to reproduce this problem locally.

    Thanks, I should have tried that first, the summary limit is now set.
    However my issue now is setting thumbnail images. Whenever I try to add a thumbnail image to a module using the setting in the additional info section everything seems to go ok and yet the images do not appear (I get the missing image red cross in their place). This happens whether I use images from the library or from my file system. Library images work fine when I use them within the body of the news story.
    I'm developing using the Microsoft Cassini web server.
    Is there a size limit to thumbnail images?

    Thanks
    Simon.

    Hi Simon,

    There is no limit to the size of the images. However, could you try whether the problem will be fixed in different browser. Also what is the link the rendered link in the browser?

    Using a different browser makes no difference.
    This is the image link that is rendered in the browser.

    <class="sf_newsThumbnail"><img id="ctl00_MainContent_NewsView1_ctl00_ctl00_repeater_ctl01_Thumbnail" src="Sitefinity/ControlTemplates/News/%5BLibraries%5D1b83d300-9f62-4bbf-bf89-215404f8674b" style="border-width:0px;" /></p>

    Thanks.

    Hello Simon,

    Have you performed an upgrade recently?

    However, here is explanation of the problem you have.

    Generally this problem appears after upgrade when the web.config file has not been merged properly. Please check whether you have the following lines in your web.config file.

    <controlDesigners>
       <add key="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image"
     value="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageEditorDialog, Telerik.Libraries"/>
       <add key="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage"
     value="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageEditorDialog, Telerik.Libraries"/>
    </controlDesigners>

    Replace the line below

    <toolboxControls>
    ...
      <add name="Image" section="Most popular"
      type="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0,  Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
      description="Displays an image on a Web page." />
    ...
    </toolboxControls>

    with the new SitefinityImage control

    <toolboxControls>
    ...
      <add name="Image" section="Most popular"
      type="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage, Telerik.Cms.Engine"
      description="Displays an image on a Web page." />
    ...
    </toolboxControls>

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi,
    I've made the changes described in your post but thumbnail images are still not showing. I have not upgraded my version of Sitefinity. My web.config contains the following code:

    <controlDesigners>
         <add key="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image" value="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageEditorDialog, Telerik.Libraries"/>
         <add key="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage" value="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageEditorDialog, Telerik.Libraries"/>
    </controlDesigners>

    <add name="Image" section="Most popular" type="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage, Telerik.Cms.Engine" description="Displays an image on a Web page." />

    I was missing this line:
     <add key="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage"
     value="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageEditorDialog, Telerik.Libraries"/>

    but adding it seems to have made no difference.

    I've removed the module and re-added it. The images are not visible in admin or when I view the live page.

    What else can I try to resolve this?

    Thanks.

    Hello Simon,

    I tried different approaches, but no one returned the problem you have. It is not the normal behavior of ButtonSelector control and the parser we use. As I see it, from the path in the link

    Sitefinity/ControlTemplates/News/%5BLibraries%5D1b83d300-9f62-4bbf-bf89-215404f8674b"

    this is an external image - that you are trying to pick up from Sitefinity/ControlTemplates/News/ folder.  Could you give us more information( which version you use, have you modified any templates or controls in the templates) or send us your project?

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    When I view another site built by my collegue the properties of the thumbnail image is in this format: /Libraries/News/imagename.sflb.
    When I try to add a thumbnail image from images I've already uploaded to the library my image property is in this format: /Sitefinity/ControlTemplates/News/%5BLibraries%5D1b83d300-9f62-4bbf-bf89-. There are no images of any type in that folder, and there is no mention of a file name or file extension.
    Images that I've uploaded to the library work fine if I use them within the content of a news story, it's just when setting them as thumbnails that problems occur.
    I'm using sitefinity 3.6. I'm using external templates for the news module. Within ControlTemplates/News/ListPageMaster.ascx, this is the code that should be displaying the thumbnail.

    <asp:PlaceHolder ID="ThumbnailHolder" runat="server">
        <class="sf_newsThumbnail"><asp:Image ID="Thumbnail" runat="server" /></p>
    </asp:PlaceHolder>

    Is there any issue with mime types when running on the Cassini web server? What mime type should I add when running under IIS?

    Thanks.

    Related to the above. In my web.config I have these toolboxControl settings
    that relate to images:

    <add name="Image" section="Most popular" type="Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage, Telerik.Cms.Engine" description="Displays an image on a Web page." />
    <add name="Image gallery" section="Most popular" type="Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.ImageGallery, Telerik.Libraries"/>
    <add name="Image " section="Images &amp; Documents" type="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" description="Displays an image on a Web page."/>
    As you can see I have two called "Image" one of type "Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.SitefinityImage" and one of type "System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image". Is this correct?
    I changed the name="Image" section="Most popular" as advised in a previous post. Does name="Image" section="Images &amp; Documents" also need changing?

    Regards
    Simon
