I have a functional custom pluggable module based on the "bare bones module" approach. The reason for not basing it on the generic content module is because the custom module is used to maintain data from an external data source.

I would like to integrate tagging into the custom module leveraging the available Sitefinity tagging functionality. I understand that the basic dependency for using the tagging functionality is that each "item" needs to be identifiable by a guid and a distinct application name needs to be defined to scope the set of tags available for the customer module.

Can you provide any guidance on how one should approach implementing tagging functionality for a pluggable module?

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,

Tags can be used only with Generic Content based modules by inheriting from TagsView<THost>. Then we persists the data through nolics.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Hello Ivan,

Thank you for your response. Sorry to hear that tagging functionality can't be implemented unless using generic content, but if that is the case, can you tell me if it it practical to use a generic content based module for my solution?

My module is used for maintaining existing data in an external table. My thought is that when the module is instantiated I would programmatically create content items for each record in the external table. I will also store the GUID of the generated content item with the each row for tracking purposes. When a content item is edited I will use my custom form for managing the external data.

Does this approach seem feasible to you?

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,

From version 4.0 where we will use taxonomy you will be able to implement Tags, Categories etc for not generic content based modules. Currently you should do everything from scratch.

    Kind regards,
