Workflow approval is a major feature we would like to have active in the CMS system (i am working with the community edition for now)

I need to know how to turn this on, i have set appropriate permisions for a non-admin user and when logged in as this user i am still able to publish the site out live...

I want a "content admin" to be able to modify content but NOT PUBLISH, only admin users or users i specify should be able to approove these changes to the content.

    Thanks

    Hi Nugs,

Community Edition does not support Workflow and Permissions feature. For details see a Feature Comparison Table for the 2 Editions.

Ok i am about to move forward with building our site project into SiteFinity, this is a feature of great importance to us. Should i develop this in the standard edition? And if i were to use the standard edition now or upgrade later, what would be the steps in truning this on...

    according to this thread: http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-bkkhde.aspx

sitefinity can be upgraded OR downgraded depending on your needs. If you have a license to the standard edition and want to UPGRADE your project, all you have to do is follow the instructions on page 59 of the User Guide available here: http://www.sitefinity.com/support/documentation.aspx.

    hope this was helpful!

I am using standard edition (3.5 SP1), but have exactly the same problem.

I have workflow enabled for pages and modules, but when trying to get the page workflow happening I found that roles who are denied approve and publish can still do so.

    Is the a known bug?

    Thanks,
    Chris.

An update to my last post, I created another editor user and found that I could not approve or publish the page when logged in with that account.

Does this mean that any user who can create a page will always be able to approve and publish it?

    That is not ideal..

    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Hello Chris,

This is the case indeed. The users could publish their items. This is a bug and we were not aware of it - it has been introduced with Sitefinity 3.5.

We will try to follow up to this thread soon with a solution or a workaround. You can also downgrade or start building your project with Sitefinity 3.2SP2 Hotfix 1616 - the workflow is working as expected in this release.

We have updated your Telerik account for drawing our attention to this problem.

    Hello Markus Berchtold,

We have only the known issues up to the release data of the last official version - Sitefinity 3.5SP1.
We are currently working on an Public Issue Tracking System which will give a real-time information on the known issues.

    Kind regards,

An issue tracking system would be very helpful.

Also a detailed roadmap on what improvements are to be expected in the next version. Kind of the feature request list so one would know what improvements can be expected when.

Sometimes a lot of small improvments make a big difference :-)

    Hey there guys,

I am revisiting this post as i have run face first into the bug Markus pointed out here.

Georgi you mentioned it was introduced into ver 3.5... Are there plans to release another SP that will resolve some issues in the 3.x versions or are these bugs going to be resolved in the next major version (4.0)?

Obviously, as i am sure you are aware, this bug could prove to be rather massive (at least for me). It is imperative that we be able to set up roles to allow none admins to create, delete, modify pages and content without publishing the changes. This bug essentially defeats the purpose of cms workflow, at least for our purposes.

Just my two cents... Any updates on when we can expect a fix would be great.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

FYI: Not only can these users publish the page but they have FULL permissions on the created page. Including modifying permissions for other roles (except for admin thankfully).

    Hi Duncan,

In the current version, the person who creates an item have a full permissions on it - he has an ownership permissions. We have fixed this issue by introducing a new special role, and the fix will be provided with Sitefinity 3.6. We still work on this version - it will be released before 4.0 for sure. We expected to be soon.

    Hi,

Can I please have confirmed if this bug has been fixed in the current version.

I recently downloaded a trial version (which gave me 3.5 I believe) and I came across this issue.  I need confidence that if someone creates a page they can't publish the page if the workflow & appropriate user permissions have been set up requiring approval.  As I'm on trial - I can't download a different version (I believe??) to test it out.

    Thanks.

Oh, interesting! I did not know this... I am using the RadControls heavily and have a few issues witht he 3.5 version of the control. The Telerik guys strongly suggest i upgrade but i wold rather not do this manually and have been waiting for the 3.6 release to get the updated controls...

Couple of questions if you don't mind...

    1) Are they updated in the Beta release?

    2) Reading through the known issues notes and noticed: "Sitefinity 3.5 at this moment cannot be upgraded to Sitefinity 3.6" Does this mean i can not push my 3.5 site to 3.6 Beta yet anyways?

    Thanks,

    Duncan

Looks like it might be best to wait for the release as i am running Framework 2.0 anyways...

I have a deadline for my current project of mid Feb... I really hope i can release my project with the 3.6 version of SiteFinity.. (biting nails)
