    Hi there,

We are using version - 3.6 SP2 of Sitefinity.

As per our current requirement we would like to use RadAjax and Radgrid in 1 of our user control (which is used on our sitefinity -site.
Main purpose is to load usercontrol dynamically - when user click "Add" link a new row with usercontrol should be available on the GUI.
It can be upto N number of times.

We would like to know following things
    1) Do we need to change anything to use RadAjax/RadGrid in current sitefinity web site configuration ?
    2) Is it true that all Radcontrols and script file are now part of single dll so that you may not require to user "RadControls" folder for this ?

BTW: 2nd question is related to use of "Telerik.Web.UI.dll" & "Telerik.Web.Design.dll". We are not use how to use them in our existing web site project.

Please let us know how we can do this and what changes are required to be done to implement it on live site.

    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hello Gaurav Mehta,

    1) Do we need to change anything to use RadAjax/RadGrid in current sitefinity web site configuration ?

You need to create a custom controls with templates. You have to inherit from Simple control and create a template. Then write the logic for your controls. If you use user controls you may have some problems with Ajaxifying of the RadGrid.

    2) Is it true that all Radcontrols and script file are now part of single dll so that you may not require to user "RadControls" folder for this ?

All RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX are embedded into a single dll - Telerik.Web.UI.dll

    Ivan Dimitrov ,

    Thanks for your reply.

Regarding your reply of 1st question :

As of now we have create a user control and uploaded it in sitefinity site to use it on the page.
What are planning is to add a Radgrid in this user control. Radgrid will have another usercontrol (e.g is the control  that is generated dynamically)

Do u see any problem in this approach ?

Regarding your reply of 2st question :

I checked in our Sitefinity web site project and found that "Telerik.Web.UI.dll" is there in "bin" folder. But the version is different than that is available on the telerik site for download:

    Telerik.Web.UI.dll
    1) Sitefinity site bin folder file version  : 2009.1.410.35
What changes I need to do to use this file for implementing Radajax/Radgrid ?
    2) Latest version file (on telerik site - available for download) :  2009.3.1208.20
What changes I need to do to use this file for implementing Radajax/Radgrid ?

Please let us know how this different version will affect the site and what changes are required to use them.

    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hello Gaurav Mehta,

From you are saying about the RadGrid and the dynamic control you want to create I do not see any problems with it. Once again I suggest using of custom control.

    1) Sitefinity site bin folder file version  : 2009.1.410.35

You use Q1 2009 dll for .NET Framework 3.5. This means you use not the last version of Sitefinity . Most probably you use Sitefinity 3.6

    2) Latest version file (on telerik site - available for download) :  2009.3.1208.20

You need to download the latest version from Telerik.com and then create a bindingRedirection in your web.config file. Note that upgrades of the controls are not recommeded due to internal dependencies with the other Sitefinity's assemblies. You can use probing path element to avoid any troubles.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Thanks for the feedback.

Yes as mentioned earlier we are using Sitefinity version -3.6 sp2

At present we are using Telerik.Web.Ui.dll (2009.1.410.35) which located in "Bin" folder or our sitefinity site.

The reason to use this version of DLL instead of latest one is :

We assume Sitefinity itself is using this DLL internally so no additional changes are required when deploying functionality (e.g that uses this dll - RadAjax & RadGrid) on the live site.

Please confirm this and let us know if any additional changes are required.

As of now we are using user control as release due in next couple of days but we will surely consider your suggestion of using custom control in next release.

    Problem:
At present there RadGrid & RadAjax works fine when page is executing but inside design view it show:
"Unrecognized tag prefix or device telerik".
I have attached screen (Telerik_Web_UI_Dll_V_2009_1_410_35_Problem.JPG) for more details.
Please check and let us know if we are missing anything (e.g reference)

    Thanks,
    Gaurav

    Hi Gaurav Mehta,

Make sure that your website has the correct Reference to Telerik.Web.UI.dll and something does not mislead the intellusence. The problem is not related to the reference. It is related to the imtelisnece of the Visual Studio you have. Try to rebuild the website, so that some of the lastes changes could be properly saved.

    Hi Gaurav Mehta,

I think that we have already discussed this in the previous post

"You need to download the latest version from Telerik.com and then create a bindingRedirection in your web.config file. Note that upgrades of the controls are not recommeded due to internal dependencies with the other Sitefinity's assemblies. You can use probing path element to avoid any troubles."

    Hi,

Yes but I think it was about "Latest version file (on telerik site - available for download) :  2009.3.1208.20"  and we intent to use "Sitefinity site bin folder file version  : 2009.1.410.35" that's why I would like you to confirm the reason mentioned earlier post for (2009.1.410.35).

As we are planning to deploy changes on live site in a day or 2 I want to make sure we don't miss anything. I hope you understand this.

Thanks very much for your continuing support
    Gaurav
