    Hi there,

I've read the KB article on adding notification to the news module, but the code provided doesn't work. (http://www.sitefinity.com/support/kb/sitefinity-3-x/how-to-notify-approvers-when-a-news-item-is-sent-for-approval.aspx)

We're using Sitefinity 3.6 and there is no ControlPanelEdit.ascx file in News/ControlTemplate folder.

We have a working test for the page workflow notification, but how do we know which template to modify for the news module? And how do we know which template to modify for the Generic Content and lists modules, etc.?

    Regards,
    Jacques

    Hi J.Hov,

The templates that you should modify are as follows:

    1. Generic Content - ContentPreview.ascx

    2. News - NewsItemPreview.ascx.

The templates have to be mapped. You can download the external templates from MyClient account. If you need further assistance, let us know.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Ivan.

    Thanks for the answer.

Do you guys have a document somewhere that highlights all of these templates that can be customized and which template applies to which part of the site?

We're noticing many people asking questions about extending Sitefinity that many times ends up being something to do with control templates. So it would be nice to have a document somewhere, perhaps it already exists, that explains to developers which control templates to change if they want to achieve X. Especially for developers that are new to Sitefinity, it's not obvious which control template does what.

    Jacques

    Hi J.Hov,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Currently we do not have document that explains each view. We will try to come up with extended documentation about templates for 4.0. Generally you have:

    Edit content item - ContentEditView
Create new content item - ContentNewView
    Preview content item - ContentPreview
ContentItemsList - list all items - when you click on Content items.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best,

    Hi Ivan

So which of the modules are workflow compatible?

From the web.config it looks like the following modules work with workflow:
    1. Generic_Content
    2. News
    3. Blogs
    4. Libraries
    5. Events

    Is this list correct?

    What about lists, polls, etc.

    Regards,
    Jacques

    Hello J.Hov,

Workflow can be used only for GenericContent based modules. Modules as Lists, Pols, Forums are not generic content based and they do not support workflow. From Sitefinity 4.0 all modules will be GenericContent based and will support workflow.

    Sincerely yours,
