Just had an interesting question come up in a 6.3.5000 project.

Say you do a blog post, and set it to publish in the future. If you go back into the blog post to make a change, there is only 'publish' which publishes immediately or 'stop schedule'.... shouldn't there be a save option to just save the changes made?

    Hello Charles,

This is the expected behavior. When you open an item in status Scheduled for edit you can Publish the item after you make the changes or you can Stop Schedule and after that schedule it for Publish on specific date.

Please refer to the below documentation article for more details on managing items in status Scheduled:

    http://docs.sitefinity.com/manage-pages-and-content-items-in-status-scheduled
