I went to the Pages tab and clicked on "Permissions for all pages" on the right hand side, and assigned roles to the required permission.

Then on the individual pages Permissions setting the assigned roles above were not inherited. I have broken & re-inherited but unfortunately they don't seem to come down.

Any tips on what I may have missed would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Clint,

You can try to restore the page inheritance as described in that article:
    http://www.sitefinity.com/developer-network/knowledge-base/details/child-pages-inheriting-wrong-permissions-from-its-parent

I would recommend you to test it on a back-up project  in advance.
