We're looking at a site redesign that's going to take about six months. We're trying to determine whether it would be better to start now with your Sitefinity 4.0 and upgrade it as you proceed through full beta to release, or redesign in v3.7 and then migrate the content later.

The site will not be publicly available during redesign, so that's not an issue. We're just trying to avoid developing the same digital real estate twice.

Is the v4.0 product far enough long where we whould begin our redesign using it? If not, what's going to be required when you do release 4.0 and we need to upgrade a v3.7 site?   Thanks!

    Hi ODLwebdev,

I suggest that you should start working with the BETA once it is available for downloading. There should not be issues related to setting themes/templates and using your css. Have in mind that there could be some issues with controls, like dynamic link parser which will resolve links to images, files etc. Also, there could be some backward compatibility issues if you later try to upgrade from BETA to official. However, in all cases it would be better using Sitefinity 4.0 BETA than Sitefinity 3.x edition. Upgrading 3.x to 4.0 will require more efforts  than if you use BETA.

Thank you Ivan.  I have a few follow-up questions...

    1. Is the BETA version going to be released in August?

    2. Will there be an option to use the BETA version with MySQL rather than SQL Server? If not, when will that option become available?

    Hi ODLwebdev,

    1. Is the BETA version going to be released in August? - yes the current plans are that we will release in August.

    2. Will there be an option to use the BETA version with MySQL rather than SQL Server? If not, when will that option become available?

MySql will not be supported for the BETA. We will have it for the official release.
