    The installation instructions state that "The Sitefinity installer tries to create its virtual folders in the default IIS site, "Default Web Site".  If that site is stopped or does not exist, the installation will fail in creating the virtual directories."

    We do not want to install this in the default web site - are there instructions for creating or moving this to another website?

    Hi Wendy Derstine,

    We are working on improving the installation process and hope to be able to provide more flexibility in the near future.

    Yes, there is a way to change this if you edit the MetaBase.xml which is the actual XML file that contains the IIS configuration settings. Here is how to tell the installer to create the virtual directories under a website called "My Test":

    1. Open the %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv\MetaBase.xml file and in the respective IIsWebServer element, notice the number similar to the one in red below. Copy this number.
    <IIsWebServer    Location ="/LM/W3SVC/859801432"
    ServerComment="My Test"
    2. Open the /telerik/Sitefinity3.1/ProjectManager/Web.Config file and in the <appSettings> section, add this:
    <add key="rootSubPath" value="/W3SVC/859801432/Root" />
    4. Restart IIS and create your Sitefinity project.

    Let us know if you come across any prooblems.

    Best wishes,
    the Telerik team

    Hello, I also am attempting to install to a non-default site.  I changed the web.config as recommended, restarted IIS, but the problem is that after the install there are no virtual directories.  What am I missing?

    Hi Susan,

    Seems this solution is related to creating virtual directories for the new project in the Sitefinity Project Manager after the Sitefinity is installed. Sorry for the confusion.

    Unfortunately, currently there is no way to tell the installer where to create the virtual directory for the Project Manager. Therefore it is always trying to put it in the default web site.

    As a workaround, you could create the virtual directories manually:
      - open the IIS manager and Go to your web site;
      - create a virtual directory (web application) 'telerik' under the web site and map it to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\telerik\web'
      - create another virtual directory (web application) 'Sitefinity3.5' under <your_site>/telerik and map it to 'C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.5\ProjectManager'. Enable Windows Authentication for it.

    Try to open the Project Manager (http://<your_web_site_domain>/telerik/Sitefinity3.5) to see if you will be able to create projects. If you have already applied the solution from the previous post, your projects will be created under the web site defined in the Sitefinity Project Manager web.config.

    Please let us know if you have any problems.

    Best wishes,
    the Telerik team
