I am trying to upgrade from 3.2 to 3.5 and I am getting an error: Unrecognized element 'caching'.  I have verified several times that my changes are consistant with the upgrade instructions.  Please help!

    Hi Alisha,

It sounds like you have a problem with your Web.config. Typically, Sitefinity adds more features to the Web.config for each upgrade and likely another element called caching was added. Try using the Web.config from the 3.5 hotfix and making changes to that one, instead of adding changes to the Web.config from your 3.2 project. Ideally, you should just use the new Web.config and update the connection string (and other properties if necessary.)

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your replay.
You're correct that existence of an element with the same name in different section could lead to the mentioned by Alisha error. But it could also be a result of wrong Telerik.Framework assembly version being used.

The element <caching defaultProvider="memoryCache"> was added in the 3.5 version, and it didn't exist in the 3.2 web.config.

Please verify the assemblies version in your bin folder, especially Telerik.Framework.dll. It should be 3.5.1714.x. As this assembly carries the configuration definitions for caching. And as John suggested you can try using the 3.5 web.config with just modifying your connection string and other custom settings used with the previous version, if any.

Let us know about the results.

    All the best,
    the Telerik team
