This is a minor thing, but currently if you do not put in a default date when adding a news module item, it defaults to like 1980 (hey the 80's ruled) and does not show up on the site.  If i give it an expiration date they show up fine.

Can this be fixed just for convenience?

    Thanks,
    Craig

Also, can you tell me how to change the default sort order of news items?  I dont know if someone has already asked about this.

    Hi Craig,

Thanks for pointing these out. We have had similar requests, so all these will be available in the official release.
As setting publication and expiration dates is not always desirable, we decided to add a new property to the NewsList control to display modes such as active, Published and All.
Also, we are going to set the current date as default value for the publication field.

Changing the default sort order of news items is not possible at the moment. We are still working on this functionality and it will be fully implemented in the official release.

    Sincerely yours,
    Rebecca

    Rebecca,

Regarding the default sort order.... what is it? We've entered about 20 news items into the module and the order appears to be very random.  Not date order, not alpha, not even order entered.  What is it??

    Thanks.

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

When data is requested without specifying order, it is retrieved by its physical order. For SQL this is the clustered index, which in this case is the primary key.

    All the best,

Is there any kind of hotfix or hack we could have to sort the news items?  We're deploying a site TOMMOROW.

    Hi Fregas,

Our public control NewsList support sorting by any data column trough Appearance/SortBy property. Most probably you can sort news by Publication_Date. Rules for writing the expression are simple:
        1. If nothing is placed in the property, sorting is by natural order (as already Bob explain).
        2. If you place a column name, sorting is performing by this column (ascending).
        3. To change the sort order to descending you should add DESC (in capital letters!). For example:
               SortBy: Publication_Date DESC.
In the meantime we found a bug in the sorting. Attached you can find the fix. Note the assembly version - 3.0.168.3. It should work with Sitefinity RC1update version only.

    Regards,
    Hrisi
