With beta 2 and a correct licensefile I never saw a request to get a production license, however, now with beta 3 there are messages appearing intermittantly for me to upgrade to a production license. This makes sitefinity unusable on a real server where real users will see the license upgrade requests.

I do have a developer license for Sitefinity 2.71 would it be possible to generate real production licenses for this beta?

Just to clarify the problem its a telerik license request showing for each of the telerik controls on a page. The request is to purchase a developer version.

This does not show everytime but only sometimes.

    Hello Len,

Honestly, we did not think that people will use Sitefinity 3.0 in prodcution, being in beta stage. We do not recommend using our betas on production servers, as many things may break or change in the next release (as you have noticed).

The reason you are seeing these messages is because we changed the trial licensing, starting with r.a.d controls Q4. The new mechanism allows the development of UNLIMITED number of applications spread across various servers (and domains) without worrying about trial keys, which proved to be a hassle for most of our users. The only restriction is that you will get a trial message on top of the control occasionally when the control is rendered in the browser. Upon replacing the trial dll with the developer dll the trial message will disappear.

We are sorry for the inconvenience, caused by these messages. We will consider making them appear in a pop up window so that the design of your site is not broken.

    Greetings,
    Annie

I had to make a decision about developing a new site in November and I read the following recommendation in the Beta 2 forum:

Posted by Bob - the telerik team on 22nd November

My suggestion is, if you really need to start developing now, start with the beta version. We will try to make upgrades as seamless as possible. In fact, we already have some clients developing real-life sites with the beta version.

    All the best,
    Bob
    the telerik team

so I took Bob at his word.

I had no problems with the licensing and stability of Beta 2 but these license purchase requests make the site unusable when I am showing the site under development to the prospective client.

How are you planning to resolve the issue and in what timeframe?

I have a developers license for both Sitefinity and the Telerik Radcontrols if that helps.

    Hi Len,

This problem will be resolved for the official version, unfortunately. We cannot change the licensing mechanism of all 20 controls in a short period of time, upon request. Again, we are sorry for the troubles.

If you have a developer version of the respective telerik controls, feel free to use them instead - they will not show licensing messages.

    Kind regards,
    Rob

    Hi,

I too have started developing a site in Beta based on that post from the telerik team on the 22 November.

I actually haven't run into any stability problems with beta 2 although the site isn't very complex.

Support even generated a prod license key for it. I thought 30 day trial licenses where going to continue with each release.

I have rolled the site to beta 3 - it actually came up with a pop-up saying that it was rolling all generic content to the new version of the control and it did it with no issues (credits to you guys).

Beta 3 is excellent guys however I didn't realise that prod trial licenses wouldn't be available for it.... lucky I think made a backup of the db before upgrading it to beta 3.

    Pros:
    Template manager is great!
    Generic content sharing is great!
    Installed fine.

    Issues:
Had a issue when I generated a new template. The template was created successfully but I got a app error (no detail sorry) and I had to refresh the page to get it going again.
    No other issues thus far.

    Cheers,

    Seth

This is a quick clarification note, Len.

Sitefinity 3.0 beta3 is build with the Q4 versions of r.a.d.controls. In this version of Sitefinity we also introduce a new approach for upgrading the r.a.d.controls. The needed r.a.d.controls assemblies for Admin are placed in the bin/admin folder. For the public part of the site, these assemblies are placed in the bin folder. These two versions are identical and you should update them simultaneously with the dev versions of r.a.d.controls.

    Best wishes,
    Hrisi
