Hopefully somebody could kindly clear this up for me.

I created a master page via visual studio in app_master. In the admin section of the site a template with the same name is generated. My master page only had placeholders.

Then I duplicated this and called the new template "Content Layout". I edited this template and added a RadEditor control to one of the placeholders.

Then I created a new page using "Content Layout". What I expected was that this new page would already contain the RadEditor control. But this was not the case, all the placeholders were empty.

Any ideas ? Do I have to add content controls to the page instead of the templates?

I was thinking of creating cotent pages (from a single template) so the users could select templates without having to add controls etc.

    Thanks

Are you sure they are empty. Try adding text to the Generic Content (that you already added to the template) while in Template edit mode. Then return to the page that you created. The text should appear. This is perfect for adding logos that you would like to appear on all pages using that template. You can still add page level Generic Content to the content placeholders. OK...that may not have been the best explanation, but I hope it helps.

    Hello Imran,

Ben is right this is intended behavior. Controls added to a template cannot be edited through the page. You can think of template as another abstraction of master page.

I guess what you want is to have the controls added to a template to act as new instances in each page. I think it makes sense to have such ability. We may consider implementing this in a future version.

Any suggestions or comments on this subject are much appreciated.

    Thanks for the response.

My intial thinking was that I could create templates with controls and the user can just select the required template. Ultimately, I would prefer not to allow the users to have to select controls and all that.

Thanks again for clearing that up.
