Not sure how hard this would be, but it might fix a lot of issues we've had when editing pages and templates in siteifnity.

We often have pre-designed sites (designed by us or other firms that are static that we convert to sitefinity for our clients.  Many of these sites have
a lot of CSS positioning.  Invariably, this causes weird things to happen in the Sitefinity designer when editing the page or template.  The top of the page your editing will overlap the top pane of the sitefinity, content holders are pushed off, the page doesn't scroll so you cant see all the content or edit it, etc. etc.

However, when pre-viewing the page thru the sitefinity admin, the page will look fine.  I believe part of this is simply that the designer isn't rendering all the placeholders and buttons for editng, but part of it i think is that you have the preview page in a seperate frame.  I think if you put the page in a seperate frame while editing, we may have better luck with scrolling, placement and other Html and CSS issues.

I'm not certain this will fix things as i have no way of testing my theory, but it might be worth a try.

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Hi Craig,

Yes, there are a lot of issues with  the page/template editor and we are trying to fix them.

However, most of the issues that you have listed ("The top of the page your editing will overlap the top pane of the sitefinity, content holders are pushed off, the page doesn't scroll so you cant see all the content or edit it, etc. etc.") seem to be caused by the omission of a required div with class="cmsWrapper", wrapping the whole content in your master pages. It's our requirement for preparing master pages and we have put it in the User Manual (Working with Page Templates > Master Pages and Templates Overview - page 30). We will try to automatize the addition of this div but for the time being you need to add it manually. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The other type of issues is related to visualization of the placeholders and control toolbars (with Edit and Delete buttons). Yes, they disturb the original layout and we will try out different design and implementation solutions for them.
At the very beginning we tried to realize this screen by an iframe, as you suggect, but then there are issues with the drag and drop of controls inside the iframe.

    Kind regards,
    Nike

Was that <DIV> required since the first beta of SF 3.0?  I don't remember reading it.  Guess i need to look at the directions more carefully but that definitely helped!

I didnt think about the drag & drop problem.  I can see where that might make a frame unfeasible.

    Thanks,
    Craig

We require this <DIV> since the beta 3 Update.
