    Hi,

It shouldn't be possible to upload 2 images with the same name, in the same library, as you'll only be able to retrieve one image through the corresponding URL.
Our contributors keep uploading the same image several times, although we're trying to educate them not to do it. When they need an image, they tend to reupload it rather than checking if it already exists. Now, we have loads of duplicate images.

    Thanks.

    Hello Thomas,

When you have multiple images with the same name uploaded in one library each additional item has its unique url. For example if you upload item abc few times you will experience the following behaviour:

item abc is uploaded, title and url are set to "abc" ( urlname = abc.jpg )
item abc is uploaded again, the title is the same, but the url is changed by automatically adding some chars to it. For example the url is abc9234729A9HSHJ.jpg, and also has additional url redirecting to the original image.

    All the best,
    Victor Velev

    Hi Victor,

I cannot confirm this. I checked 3 images, which all show the exact same URL when I click "Embed this image" to retrieve it. From Sitefinity 4.0 to 4.3, we've never noticed the behavior you just described.

Anyway, can we expect any changes or improvements there?
Like a warning "An image with the same name already exists" with several options, or something?

    Thanks.

It's a bad comparision but just imagine you would have decided to have a baby back when this was first reported - you would be holding a boy or girl in your arms now.

I have 5 children so I keep hoping for the best on SF. If you don't have any children yet - Find a nice wife, get married and have a baby -> This way you are in control :-)

PS: Just for your information. This was even worse in 3.5.

You were forced to have different titles. At least now you can work around it. But it's a real pain for endusers. Imagine autoshow with 20 images from ford. You would have to name all Ford images ford_01.jpg, ford_02.jpg .... and rememember where you are because if you get the same name twice you are in trouble.

And just for fun imagine this on a site with 3 languages :-)

So acutally the problem is so old your child could walk and talk by now and go to kindergarden :-(

@Markus: Thanks for the info. Yeah, I know some bugs have been laying around for a while. I guess this doesn't bother the Sitefinity team as much as it bothers us.

This is why I don't report nearly as many things as I used to. Too many things to report, and most reports seem to get either ignored, denied ("It works for us!"... until you end up getting them to admit it doesn't), or stacked at the end of a 3-year long TODO list.

    Hi Thomas and Markus,

The issue was logged in PITS - http://www.telerik.com/support/pits.aspx#/public/sitefinity/6788 - but up to now it has received 0 votes. This is probably the prime reason why it hasn't been fixed yet.

I've made sure to increase the priority, seems you have both requested this fix. Markus alone requested it several times. I expect that we will be able to come up with a resolution in 4.4 SP1.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi,

Thanks for the link. I didn't know votes were taken this seriously (but I still vote for all bugs I care about, I just didn't know this bug number).
    Anyway, here's one first vote.

Thanks Georig for reminding me that I am a pain in the neck :-)

None of my links mentioned PITS but that it was logged in your bug-tracking system with ID106972.

Its sometimes realy hard to vote for an item because when you click on a PITS link 3 out of 4 times it will not work and take me to the main PITS page.

To me its more an an images with the given URL already exist warning matter. http://www.telerik.com/support/pits.aspx#/public/sitefinity/7960

    Thanks Markus
