    Hi team.

    I'm running SF 3.7.2002 and now I can't edit any controls. When I edit a page or template and try and click the 'Edit' button on a control, nothing happens but the browser registers a JavaScript error. Here is an example:

    ----------------------------

    Webpage error details

    I am using IE8 this time but the same happens on all browsers.

    Have you seen this before?

    Hi Ross Reichardt,

    You have some control on the page that causes the error. Can you try using a blank page without any controls, css, js etc and see whether the problem will appear? You can also run the debugger the see what exactly cause the issue.

    Hello Ivan.

    thanks for your reply. I have tried putting a Generic content control on a new page and then editing it but I have the same problem. So it appears it is a problem on more than the one page.

    How do I use the debugger to check this out?

    Thanks and regards,

    Ross Reichardt.

    Hello Ross Reichardt,

    The error comes from an EmbeededResource of a control you have.

    "/ScriptResource.axd?d=cJ4nb_kMQ1wprYTxWlkZFYR4AEGq3q4dAJwVsNq8fRQ3ZCgg-AYJhSyHYMqZY0ecdJMpKSoeLKpmse8vOqFO3A2&t=4c649f50"

    Again - you have a control or js code in your master that causes the error. Can you try to reproduce the error with the master page posted below:

    <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="SimpleMaster.master.cs" Inherits="App_Master_SimpleMaster" %>

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <head runat="server">
        <title></title>
        <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="head" runat="server">
        </asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
    </head>
    <body>
        <form id="form1" runat="server">
        <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" />
        <div>
          <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">
          </asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
        </div>
        </form>
    </body>
    </html>

    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Web;
    using System.Web.UI;
    using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
    using Telerik.Web.UI;

    public partial class App_Master_SimpleMaster : System.Web.UI.MasterPage
    {
        protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {

        }

    }

    As for the debugger - please take a look at this post.

    Hi Ivan.

    Thanks for your help - I have found it. On my menu, I have the CSS to style the menu just as I want it. What I have done it to create a RadMenu.skin file in my theme and in that skin file I have both   EnableEmbeddedBaseStylesheet and EnableEmbeddedScripts set to false. That disables the default behaviour of the Radmenu and allows my CSS to style the menu exactly as I want it. The trouble is that it also causes this problem with not being able to edit the page controls.

    If I set EnableEmbeddedScripts="true" then I can edit controls but the auto generated JavaScript make a mess of my menu.

    So, it appears that we need to have EnableEmbeddedScripts="true" to edit controls on the page. Have you heard of that before?

    Thanks and regards,

    Ross.

    Hello Ross Reichardt,

    EnableEmbeddedScripts is set to false only in case you have custom script that you want to load instead of the default ones. Since all controls are AJAX based when you disable the scripts js errors are thrown. This is the "normal" behavior.

    Thanks Ivan. So I need to style the radmenu using its properties to do what I want. I'll look at some of the tutorials.

    Regards,

    Ross.

    Hello Ross Reichardt,

    You can take a look at the RadMenu developers documentation where all properties and events are documented.
