    Hi,

    I have a site that will have X sections, each section will have a forum.
    Users will be assigned to edit a section.

    All users can view the forum content, but only users that have been added to that section permission group should be able to edit.

    So user 1 can edit Forum 1 but can only view Forum 2.

    When I set the permission group to allow group users to edit forums in the modules tab in sitefinity its site wide, and users can edit all forums regardless of what section they are in.

    Is there a way to set the permission to the forum on a page basis. or is there an alternative way to achieve this.

    Thanks
    Kieran

    Hello Kieran,

    Thank you for using our services.

    Unfortunately the Forums Module in Sitefinity 3.x does not support granular permissions. Permissions are applied on module level instead of single forum level. Granular permissions are supported in Sitefinity 4.0 and this kind of scenario will be supported in this version once we release the Forums module for Sitefinity 4.0.

    Best wishes,

    Ok thanks  Radoslav,

    Is there any work around that you can think of?

    Is there any way I could use some inline code on the thread template and hide the links that way.

    Thanks
    Kieran

    Hello Kieran,

    You can visit this thread: Create own functions in Forum lists? Instead of checking the current page as in the sample there you have to check if the current user belongs to a specific role. You can find sample code how to check current user's role in this blog post.

    Thanks Radoslav for the reply,

    I have a control that allows me to select a single forum for a page. So I don't have an issue displaying the forum itself.

    My issue is the displaying edit, delete and reply buttons, to user that shouldn't see them.

    So if a user is in the correct role then the links are displayed other wise they aren't.

    Hello Kieran,

    The approach is similar. Instead of working with the grid rows, however you should be working with the buttons.

    Hi Radoslav,

    If I had the thread ID can I get all the post for that thread. I will not have the forum ID.

    I was looking at ForumManager but doesn't seem to be an option.

    Thanks
    Kieran

    Hi Kieran,

    If you know the ThreadID you can use this overload

    ForumManager manager = new ForumManager();
    var list =  manager.GetPosts(new Guid("98dbd949-fe46-4d50-a105-1ae0e6f7ada4"), true, true);
