I've noticed a problem with Sitefinity's Menu object when applying URL rewriting. When you're on a page that makes use of URL Rewriting the menus point to the wrong place. On any other page the menus work, but on rewritten pages they point to the original non-rewritten page PLUS the new URL specified by the Menu item .

This is happening because the Menu control is rendering anchor anchors as:
    <a href="sub-page1/sub-page2">sub-page2</a>
    instead of :
    <a href="/sub-page1/sub-page2">sub-page2</a>
As you can see in the second anchor there is a leading '/' to indicate the root of the application.

What do I need to change to get this working? I didn't see anything about it in the documentation.

    Regards,
    Jacques

Does anybody have any advice? Someone must have run into this problem before?

Anyone there? This should be a pretty obvious problem?

    Hello J.Hoventer,

We have responded to the other thread you have open on URL rewriting. This is not a bug with the menu. The problem is caused because the Sitefinity rewriter cannot be used to change outbound urls. For this you have to use the IIS UrlRewriter.

I'm not sure how you can say this is not a bug. Your documentation states that Sitefinity has a URL Rewriting module that you can use. When you activate this functionality the menus no longer work. How is that not a bug?

    Hello J.Hoventer,

    Thanks for the follow up.

What the UrlRewriter does is just rewriting of the URL, and provides the page underneath without changes to it's source code. If you bind the menus to the SiteMap, you shouldn't expect that its links will respect the rewrite rules - the binding mechanism has no way to know that.
