I have a licensed copy of the 3.0 product that I have installed on a server that WILL be our production machine.  Right now, while we are converting the current site to sitefinity, the server is accessed via IP address for content editing as the general designers have no direct access to the machine.  Unfortunately, now, every so often the users will get "you are using a trial version" which they can just click "continue".  While this is annoying, it's not too problematic.  However, what seems to be a real problem is that the workflow piece does not seem to be working.  No one is getting emails for approval after an item is "checked" in.  Additionally, everyone has "publish" for content/pages with no option to "Save" instead.  Is this the result of the license issue or do I need to do something to turn on workflow?  If it is a license issue, will creating a DNS subdomain allow the license to function (it is in the correct file location already) if the users use that URL instead?

    Thanks

    Hi Allen,

I can't help you with your licensing issues,  I will leave the up to Telerik

As for workflow Sitefinity doesn't currently support functionality to email users when an item is marked for approval, hopefully it is going to be added in a future version.

It certainly sounds like you don't have workflow enabled, it is disabled by default, in your web.config if you fine the line that has this:

    <add connectionStringName="DefaultConnection" allowPageHistory="true"
    allowPageWorkflow="false" name="Sitefinity" type="Telerik.Cms.Data.DefaultProvider, Telerik.Cms.Data" />

and change allowPageWorkflow to true, that should then turn it on for you.

    Cheers
    Sean

    Hello Allen,

Did you copy and paste your license.xml file in \Sitefinity3.0\WebSites\Your_Project\Sitefinity folder? This should fix your problem with trial messages.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Best wishes,
    Pepi

Sean,  Thanks for the web config change.  I missed that somehow.  Also, I am terribly dissapointed that the email notification is not part of the process.  I really hope that will be in a near release as it is sort of intrinsic to the workflow idea.

Also, as for the license... it's in the right spot.  How do I troubleshoot the issue?

    Hi Allen,

Glad that at least has your workflow going.  Yeah the email notification it is something that required for workflow really, but it isn't too far away if you look at the Sitefinity Road Map page you will see that it is slated in for version 3.2, which I think I saw somewhere is coming out early next year which isn't too far away, so something for your users to look forward to.

On that note Telerik, I have a feature request, when looking at the Email notifications do you think it would also be possible to consider an RSS feed to be able to pull a list of pages that need to be dealt with by a user.

Sorry I can't be of much help with the Sitefinity licensing issue, I am on an older licensing scheme.  I would imagine that it has something to do with either the way the license has been generated, are you sure the IP address that you are accessing the site on matches what you generated?

    Sean,

I had to license by domain name.  I am working with the Admin team to try and get a subdomain in place.  I hope that will resolve the issue.

At any rate, the email notification is a big hole in our plan, but I also really like the RSS idea.

As for the road map, I hope they stick to the schedule.  I am already fretting over the release of the search module.  When I first evaluated the product and talked to my client about it the search was there, but once we committed and bought - it wasn't.  I had hopes that September release meant more like 9/1 not 9/30.  In the same vein, I hope "early" next year meanse 1st quarter and not May. (As in, please don't follow the Microsoft model - promise early, deliver late.)

    Hi Allen,

Could you please open a new support thread so we can discuss your licensing issues there?
    Thanks in advance.
