Again, I am new to sitefinity, but I am having the following issues:

    Background of project:
Most pages utilize a "drill.master" that uses a "Drill" theme.  I've added controls, etc.

    Issue one:
    - The display of the page in the View panel with Pages in the backend manager is different than the Preview. Meaning, controls are overlapped, and images are broken. Everything this fine in preview and viewing the live site.

    Issue two:
    - I want to add a homepage.master. No problem, I created one, uploaded it, assigned it to the Drill theme (to utilize the same CSS but will have different controls). I am however, unable to drag controls onto this master.

    Issue three:
    - How do I "resuse" controls. Meaning, I have my tabstrip, rad menu, auxillary nav, footer, etc. all set and formated in my "drill.master". Why can't I just call those controls again in the homepage.master theme? Is there a simple work-around here?

In sort, what is the best procedure to set up multiple masters, based of the same theme but with additional controls and a slightly different look and feel?
I am looking for the best way to set it up.

    Thanks.

i'm not sure if I'm understanding your question, but i'll try and help.

make sure that the contentplaceholders in your master pages are self-closed tags, like instead of

    < asp:contentplaceholder id="stuff" runat=server>< /asp:contentplaceholder>

    you should have

    < asp:contentplaceholder id="stuff" runat="server />

(delete the space after the < I just put it there so you can see the tag).

as for issue 1, try setting it to classic mode when editing and see if that cleans up the layout. whenever I get stuck in the editor that usualy lets me troubleshoot the problem.

    hope that was helpful!

    Thanks SelArom -

My initial problem was that I had the same Form  ID as another master and it locked everything up.

I changed the tags to well-formed  />   but I  don't see any difference.

I think my other question was how can I reuse controls like the General Content..I think I saw in a tutorial how I can "save" it an reference it so once a change is made once it is applied throughout.

Also, if you could share your e-mail, we can communicate off line as there may be other projects you can assist me with.  You can e-mail me off of my site www.18oz.com

if you want to reuse controls, I would suggest just wrapping them in a user control, then register them in web.config and drop them in the pages on which you want to share that content. when you want to change it, you'll have to edit them in visual studio (or notepad) but any changes will be propagated into any page that references that control.

    Hey Joel,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Based on your input, you'd want to use the Sitefinity template manager to reuse navigation, footers and other controls. The template editor is a lot like a page, so you select a master page, a theme and then drag controls onto the page. When you save the template, you then make a page and select that template and all the controls pop up. For more info on our template editor, please watch this video. More info on the template manager is also found under Working with Page Templates in our User Manual.

As for your theme issue, we'd be happy to take a look and see why overlay mode is not working. Can you include your master page and theme in your response? Likely some of your CSS classes are not the same as ours, which could cause this error.

I hope that I have clearly answered your question. Feel free to contact us if you need more help.

Thanks Joe, sorry for the delayed response.

Can I send you my master page and theme for you to look at and see why the display of the editor isn't working/displaying correctly?

Which files should I send you and where do you want me to sent them?

    Thanks so much!

    Hello Joel,

Please open a new support ticket with a summary of the problem or link to this thread and attach the .master file, any related .cs and .css files as a zip archive to the thread.

Thanks. I am ready to do so, but I get this error:

"You have no support rights or your support rights have expired."

I am actually the consultant to a client that purchased the product directly from you.
    How can I continue?

    Hi Joel,

Please send the zipped files directly to gergana.petrova@telerik.com.
We suggest you contact the license holder and ask them to add you as a licensed developer. When this is done, you'll be entitled to technical support for Sitefinity and you'll be able to submit support tickets.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Joel,

The page layout is destroyed because you have misclosed one div and form tags in your master pages. Your master page looks something like that:

    <%

    @ Master Language="C#" %>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <
    html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
    <
    head runat="server">
        <title>Force 3</title>

    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    </
    head>
    <
    body>
        <
    div id="wrapper">

    <form id="form2" runat
    ="server">

    <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>

    ..............

            </

    div>
        </
    form>

    </
    body>
    </
    html>

The div with ID wrapper better come after the script manager tag like this.

    <body>

        <form id="form2" runat
    ="server">

    <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>
            <div id="wrapper">
    ..............

            </

    div>
        </
    form>

    </
    body>
