    Hello,

I have three Master Pages.  These are nested Master Pages, so 2 inherits from 1 and 3 inherits from 2 (just putting that out there in case there are known issues).  When I create a page that uses Master Page 3 (the nested most page), the design looks EXACTLY how it should on the site map page, where a preview is displayed in a window to the right.  However, when I click on "Edit this page" the design is completely broken.  It's broken to the point where I cannot use the "Overlay" edit mode; I must use "Classic" and I cannot drag and drop...I have to use the drop down list and add button.  Now, when I go to preview the page, it looks perfect.  This makes me reluctant to troubleshoot any CSS at this point.

In general, has anyone run across a similar issue?  What did you do to resolve it?  Or is this a known problem and that's why classic mode is given as an alternative to overlay?

    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,

Here are the reasons for this behavior

    1. You have an invalid HTML XHMTL
    2. There are some big spaces between opening and closing tag of the ContenPlaceHolder controls defined in your master page. It is better to use short closing tag for the ContentPlaceHolder
    3. There are some rules defined in your css classes that break the page editor behavior
