    I am looking for some instructions on how to use the rad controls that distributed with sitefinity, in particular the RadMenu.

    I have a content place holder setup in my template, I drag and drop the control in to the space, but my current menu system is not there like with the other navigation controls.  I guessing there is some configurations to done but where are the instructions?

    Thanks

    Hi Aaron,

    We use the standard RadMenu control. We he have extended only some properties representing sitemap data of Sitefinity.
    The control also can be configured to display only several levels from the sitemap hierarchy, using the LastExpandLevel property. Menu items corresponding to group pages can be set to redirect to the first child page (default) or just expand to show the children and do not redirect, using the HideUrlForGroupPages property.

    All the best,

    Hi Ivan

    I am using the SiteMenu control inside my Sitefinity installation and I have successfully inserted images as the main link tabs. However, the skin is still using the Default skin.

    I have tried reading up on these articles to help:
    1. http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/menu_appearancecreatingacustomskin.html
    2. http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/menu_appearancecssfile.html

    However, I can't seem to find the files and the controls which they are describing in the tutorial! Can you assist by pointing me to the designated folder where the styles are kept so I can adjust the padding, as well as the background of the Default skin please?

    I have tried looking in Navigation35 folder but have not found anything useful.

    Please advise kindly.

    Thank you very much!
    Terrence

    Hello Terrence,

    I have attached the skins css files for all RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX , Telerik.Web.UI Q1 release.
    Some additional instructions:

    You can create a skin file in your theme folder where you are setting EnableEmbeddedSkins thus your RadMenu control will use the custom skin when you have selected the current theme.

    <%@ Register TagPrefix="telerik" Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI" Namespace="Telerik.Web.UI" %>
    <telerik:RadMenu
        runat="server"
        Skin="CustomSkin" EnableEmbeddedSkins="false"
        >
    </telerik:RadMenu>

    Hi Ivan

    Thank you for your response.

    Do you mean to say that I can create my own skin file, then copy it into my App_Themes/MyThemes folder and then reference it inside SiteMenu.ascx?

    What extension does the skin file need to be? And it will be using a CSS file to control the colours, etc. right? Pardon my lack of experience as I have only been doing this for a few weeks.

    Thanks again.

    Best regards
    Terrence

    Hi Terrence,

    You can observe this functionality  under ~/App_Themes/Blue with right sidebar/ There is a RadMenu.skin file and Menu folder that collects .css fwhich styles the control.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Ivan

    So all I have to do is to copy the files exactly as per what's in the Blue folder and subsequently reference it inside the SiteMenu.ascx file?

    There's no need for a build or IISRESET right?

    Thanks!

    Hello Terrence,

    If you create your custom skin under your custom theme folder (as it is in the sample Blue with right sidebar theme), you don't need to reference anything in the SiteMenu.ascx user control. The skin will be applied automatically to the menu, when you select the needed theme from the dropdown listing the themes that are available for use by pages/templates in your Sitefinity-managed Web site.

    I would recommend you read the following article which provides some general knowledge for the themes and skins in ASP.NET: ASP.NET Themes and Skins Overview

    Kind regards,

    Ivan,

    Do you have an example where I can use RadMenu and the sitemap for Sitefinity as the datasource? I like the way that the siteMenu works, but I need to have it's flow direction changed from Horizontal to vertical. I can't see where I can change the siteMenu  to reflect a vertical flow.

    Please help.

    Thanks

    Hello Jeff O'Connell,

    You can do it from the Control designer - when you open the contol in edit mode - there is a property that expose all RadMenu properties.
    Another option is changing Flow property from the control declaration - Sitefinity/UserControls/Navigation35/SiteMenu.ascx, but you should better use the public property.

    Best wishes,
