    Guys,

For one of our clients, we need to create a custom module that essentially will behave just like Blogs module. It will be much faster for us to build that module if we have the access to Blogs Module code. That way we can just customize the code to fit our requirements.

Is it feasible for Telerik team to share Blogs module code?

    Much appreciated!

    Hello Nitin,

Thank you for getting in touch with us and for your inquiry.

As per our licensing policy for the Sitefinity product, the Source Code is not to be distributed with neither the community nor the commercial Sitefinity license. However, we offer instructions on how to create a custom module. Please feel free to review them here:
    http://www.sitefinity.com/help/DevelopersManual/CreateFunctionalityWithCustomControls.html

There are some tips here as well:

If there is anything else I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to write back.

    All the best,

    Lidiya,

While I can see your view point, I still believe open source modules will benefit us overall.

This will not only provide as an excellent starting point for writing custom modules, it will also not compromise the Sitefinity IP. The code can be inspected using any good reflector anyways.

And it looks like others can see its advantage as well: http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-gdhtk.aspx

    My two cents!

    Dear Nitin,

Thank you for getting back to us.

We realize the benefits from open source modules and, in fact, there is an open source project for the Jobs module, provided with the distribution of  the Sitefinity product. The sample is available with both the developer and the trial build of Sitefintiy, so please feel free to review it. Although it is not an open source project for the Blogs module, I hope it will still be useful for you.

With respect to the inspection of the source code through the use of reflectors, please be advised that this is in conflict with our License Agreement (http://www.sitefinity.com/purchase/license-agreement.aspx).

If i can be of further assistance, please let me know.

    Lidiya,

The whole purpose of this thread was to explore ways to make Sitefinity easier to implement.

The idea behind code inspection using any 3rd party tool is to gain better understanding of Sitefinity, more than anyting else.

And, thanks for sending the link with License Agreement. It was a pleasure dealing with you :)
