1.) Is there any way to turn off certain views so that my users only have access to the Month View?
You can try using css to hide some of the modes( this will hide week mode - you need to use a custom skin and set EnableEmbeddedSkins to false).

properties, you can restrict the user's ability
to alter the view or date displayed, or you can provide an alternate
method of changing these by adding your own controls to the web page.
If you hide the navigation pane, you can still control the date
displayed in the scheduler using the SelectedDate
property. If you hide the view tabs, you can
still control the view displayed in the scheduler using the SelectedView

not, is there a way to set the control so that the Month View is
selected by default instead of the Day View? I've tried using the
property EventsScheduleView > EventsSchedule
-> SelectedView property, setting it to MonthView. This property
doesn't seem to have any effect. Could this be a problem with my
installation? Should this property set the MonthView as the view that
is selected by default?
I figured out that the property setting does not apply through
Sitefinity UI. If you map the external control template you will be
able to manage the required properties. Another way is adding RadScheduler
to your web.config toolbox section.
