I want to expose the RadEditor to my end users to allow them to enter HTML and copy & paste content from Microsoft Word.  This content will get stored in a separate database as part of their profile information - it will not directly update the content of a page in SiteFinity.  However, I am having difficulty getting the RadEditor to function properly within a SiteFinity page.

I am using SiteFinity 3.5 community edition with user controls developed in VB.Net 2.0.  I have tried using both the Telerik.Web.UI that came with the SiteFinity installation, and the 2.0 (from \bin not \bin35) version that came with a trial version of the Telerik controls that I downloaded recently.

The RadEditor always renders with all the toolbar buttons, etc. but there is a little blue dot next to them.  Clicking on any of the toolbar buttons sends the user to the top of the page but does nothing else.  The HTML/Design/Preview tabs cannot be selected (It is stuck on Design), and one cannot type within the content area.  In fact, when looking at the source for the page, it appears that the <Content> tag is never even rendered.

I was able to get the RadEditor to work properly in a stand-alone test 3.5 website (very quickly and easily), as well as a stand-alone test 2.0 website (much more difficult with having to install AJAX 1.0 and do lots of web.config mods).  It even works on a user control in the stand-alone 2.0 website.

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get this working within the SiteFinity website?

    Hello Warren,

I cannot tell you for sure what the exact problem is, but it looks like as a styling issue or something related to the skin you are using. I have used many times RadEditor on a pages and I have not met this problem.

Thank you for the response.  The people that wrote the site set up about 5 different skins and it didn't work with any one of them.  I can modify the skins, but do you have any idea what I should be looking for?  What could be placed on a skin that would cause a problem with the control other than formatting?

    Hi Warren,

First you can change this skin of the RadEditor control with one of the default skins. You need to change the RadEditor's EnableEmbeddedSkins property to true. Then, set one of the default skins using Skin property. Thus you can determine whether the problem is related to the custom skins. If so, you can send the problematics skin to us and we will try to fix it.

    Sincerely yours,

It doesn't appear to be a problem with the skins.  I was already using the embedded skins option with "default" selected.  Turning off embedded skins causes the control to display very strangely.  I tried going through every embedded skin and while they change the look a little, they all experience the same problem.  I think that the control is experiencing an error during rendering and exiting before completion.  I have 3 javascript errors:

Sys.Application is null or not an object on line 386 (so this may be on the master page / template)
Sys.UI.DomEvent is null or not an object on line 3041
Sys.Application is null or not an object on line 3491

I will try changing the template that it is using and see if that makes a difference.

    Hello Warren,

I am not sure whether you have managed to sort out the issue. If it still persists, please send us the files you are using to style your RadEditor - css (EditorCssFile), custom themes and screenshots. We will try to figure out what is going wrong and fix this issue.

    Kind regards,

    Ivan,

Thank you for following up on this issue so diligently.  I was able to partially determine the problem.  There is something wrong with the page template that we are using, not the skin.  I am not sure what the exact problem is at this point, but I know that I can get the control to work if I have the page it is on use a blank template.  For the time being, that is good enough.  I may look more deeply into the matter at a later date.
