    Hi Guys,

I have started to implement the forums module but I hit a bit of a brick wall and I was hoping you could help out.

Basically I want to be able to give certain roles access to a particular forum and not others.  The problem is of course there is currently no way of doing this that I can see.  So I thought of using hidden forums and the SingleForum control to a page and set the permissions on the page, but of course the problem is you can't set the Guid on the SingleForum control.

Is there any simple way of achieving something like this other than extending the Forums Module classes?

Another thing which I was wondering with the Forums module, and this isn't something I need but I was wondering for future implementation do you plan to make the forum module search engine friendly as it currently using linkButtons instead of Hyperlinks?

    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Sean Molam,

Thank you very much for providing this feedback. Setting the Guid of the forum to display for the SingleForum control will be implemented for our next release - Sitefinity 3.2. Also we plan to provide more granular permissions for all modules, not only forums, but we cannot promise when they will be available. This means that you will be able to configure permissions for separate blogs and forums.
Right now the Forums module is not based on Generic Content and many features available to Blogs and News are missing. We will change that for the future, but it will not make it into 3.2. Of course, when that happens, it will get URL rewriting and also become SEO friendly. Thank you for the suggestions again, and excuse us for the inconvenience.

    Best wishes,

    Thanks Slavo,

Glad to hear it is something that is planned to be implemented in the future at some point.  It is always good to know that the stuff I suggest makes it into the the system no matter when it eventually does, I keep noticing stuff I asked for ages ago suddenly appearing, like the Descriptions added in code for properties!

I just saw the updated Road Map today and there are some very exciting features that you are planning to implement!  All I can say is bring on next year already!

    Keep up the good work.
