    I have just begun receiving the above error when attempting to access a previously fully-functional installation of Sitefinity.

    It is an app pool problem.  I receive the following error in the vent log:

    A process serving application pool 'sf' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '3420'. The process exit code was '0x800703e9'

    Event IDs are 5009 and 5011

    Google suggests this is some manner of unhandled recursion issue, but I don't understand how that would suddenly surface on a previously healthy app pool.

    This environment is our proposed "production" environment wiht which we are proving Sitefinity's viability as a MOSS alternative to our national leadership... tomorrow afternoon...

    Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated.

    I have just received additional information from our network engineering team.

    This is the series of errors generated before the app pool failsafe measures trigger:

    Hello Pete,

    Could you please provide us with the Sitefinity.log file? We will also require a time stamp from the windows/server event logs, in order to check if the last error in Sitefinity is related to this one.

    Also, do you get this error when you log into the administration, or see a navigation control for example? I have a clue, but I am not sure from these details.

    You might try to run the following script again your database:
    select * from sf_PageBase where ParentID = NULL
    If the result is more than 0 (1, 2... etc) then you are right, there is a recursion. You might fix it by running:
    update
    sf_PageBase
    set
    ParentID = NULL
    where
    ID = ParentID

    More information on this exact problem could be found in the following post: http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-bdekgd.aspx

    Let me know about these details though.
