Is it possible to localize list items?

I have a list, lets say of FAQs, and for each item in the list, I need to be able to edit a german and an english version, similar to how it is possible with generic content items.

    Regards, Mikael

    Hello Mikael Kleinwort,

unfortunately not. We are reworking the lists module to be based on Generic Content module and are aiming to release it with Sitefinity 4.0. Once that is done, Lists module will support everything like any other Generic Content based module (including the localization).

I am sorry that I was not able to help you more at this time.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan

Thank you for getting back to me.

Any module which is not localizable is basically unusable for us here in Germany, since we have to provide all content in German and at least in one addditional language, which is English.

We are looking forward to 4.0. I am posting this repsonse cast our vote for localization of all modules... this is very important to us.

    Regard, Mikael

    Hello Mikael Kleinwort,

You are right and this is the reason why we will make all modules Generic content based.

    Best wishes,

    Hello together,
I have really the same problem. Lists are wonderful but how to handle all in several languages... horrible!
I have to make a site in German, English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and perhaps very soon in some other languages. The List directory looks terrible.

To be successful with sitefinity its important to handle this localization. Its also important that there is the possibility to give to editors the permission just for one language.

    Greetings to you
    Adalbert

    Hello Adalbert,

Your post, specifically "Its also important that there is the possibility to give to editors the permission just for one language." has been posted for internal discussion. A solution to the localization problem would be to re-implement the Lists module yourselves as a Generic-Content based module.

    Sincerely yours,
    Dido

    Italian

    Dear Ivan

Thats good to hear but I guess you missed one little statement -> out of the box.

4.0 should come with the major languages ready. What sence does it make if 100 spanisch speaking people have the option to translate it easy. How nice would it be if Telerik spent some money on translating and serving a lot of people with the translation ready.

    Regards Markus

    Hello Markus Berchtold,

We had similar discussion about some major languages, but this will not happen earlier than 4.1.

    Dear Ivan

    Sad to hear. :-(

I would have thought that this would be such a strong selling point.

    Thanks for the feedback.
