    Hello thomas3577,

    The error seems to be thrown from Generic Content module, because it is selected by default when you click on modules. This error is thrown from the WebService we use to client bind Grid data object. Please check whether you have some firewall or proxy that could block the web service. Another possible reason could be if you click between the tabs before the previous request to be completed.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi thomas3577,

    If you are using IIS 5 you could have these problems. If not, you can observe the request using HTTP WATCH of Fiddler and send us the report. Another option is creating a backend user account and send us a link to your webserver from where we could try to figure out what the problem is.

    This is only a Testsystem. The main page will come later. The Webserver is from a Web Hosting Provider.
    I ask my provider, which is installed IIS.

    Can I send the account information via email?
    :-)

    Hi thomas3577,

    Status Code: 500 means that "The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request."

    Please tell us
    -the IIS version you use.
    - can you reproduce this problem on a localhost.
    - What the result of HTTP WATCH of Fiddler.

    Can I send the account information via email?

    You can open a bug report and provide us with more information.  The problem does not come from Sitefinity itself. There is something that prevents the response from our WebService used for binding.

    Hello, I am experiencing this error from adding a location tag around my 'system.web' and 'system.webServer' nodes in my web.config.

    Can you help?

    Here is my scenario:

    I have a root application that is in Sitefinity, and a sub-application that is not, but still uses Telerik DLLs (a different version). I was tired of getting Telerik errors when the versions did not match, and my solution was to do the following:

    Wrap the root 'system.Web' and 'system.WebServer' nodes in the following location tag:

    <location path="." inheritInChildApplications="false">
    <system.web>....</system.web>
    <system.webServer>...</system.webServer>
    </location>

    Then I had to extract a few things that I wanted to inherit, which resulted in the following sections being outside the location tags:

    <system.web>
            <compilation debug="true">
                <assemblies>
                    <add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" />
                    <add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />
                    <add assembly="System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" />
                    <add assembly="System.Data.DataSetExtensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" />
                </assemblies>
            </compilation>
        </system.web>

    <system.webServer>
            <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" />
            <httpErrors>
                <error statusCode="503" path="/503.html" responseMode="ExecuteURL" />
            </httpErrors>
        </system.webServer>

    When I remove the location tags, the error goes away. When I add them back in, I get the following message:

    Stack Trace: /r/nError: The server method 'GetContentItems' failed./r/nStatusCode: 500/r/nTimedOut: false

    Hello,

    Instead of using location tags, it is possible to use <remove> and <clear> elements from the problematic parts.

    All the best,

    Hey Ivan,

    Thanks for the quick response. That is how we were dealing with it at first, but it was problematic. Every time something new was added to the root, we had to remember to add a remove tag to the child application or else it would break. This was a problem because the root application has far more traffic than the child application. We are planning to move it, but haven't got a chance yet.

    I would really like to solve the problem with the location tags.

    Is there something else I maybe need to place outside the location tags that would be causing this error?
    Sitefinity doesn't use any sub-applications, does it?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

    1. Using <remove> and <clear> elements ( and location ) tags is the only way that I am aware of for removing web.config inheritance.

    2. Possible reasons for this error are
    • Url Rewriting
    • Web service is blocked
    • You have changed the web service - passing not valid values as parameters.
    • You have content items that have some invalid metakey values.
    • There are special chars or white spaces in the name of your host/virtual application.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov
